I love these kinds of videos comparing different drums. Unfortunately the Mrs has cottoned onto the fact I love them enough she's figured out how many snare drums I own and I'm getting the evils...
Anyone play drums in here?

The drummer in our class in school (there's always one) used bang on (I thank you...
) about how his snare had the most chains of any drum available on the market.
I had / have no idea what that means or whether that was a good thing or a bad thing but it always sounded like "But this Amp goes up to 11 to me

Hehe. As you can tell from my numbers, I (generally - there are always going to be exceptions of course) favour a nice snappy snare without much reverb.KiwiDave wrote: Wed Apr 22, 2026 7:04 am I love these kinds of videos comparing different drums. And an aside, but one of my favourite song (drum) contrasts is Foo Fighters Walking After You.
The original album track is a great song.
But the
single version featured Hawkins on the drums with some sublime snare work. Absolutely love it.
(edit: I'm not suggesting that the only change is the drums, I'm just focusing on them due to their impact to the whole "feel" (for me))

I think that goes in the 'just because you can doesn't mean you should' bucket.

I don't think I've ever heard the single version before. Smacks an awful lot of Taylor's playing with Alanis Morissette (worth watching one of those live concerts if you get chance) which makes sense given the timing - he must have been fairly fresh from the swap when recording that. Does make the whole thing drive along more, probably much more suitable for radio plays.mik wrote: Wed Apr 22, 2026 9:45 am And an aside, but one of my favourite song (drum) contrasts is Foo Fighters Walking After You.
