SV with lowered floors, Sigma engine with throttle bodies and this one's a 5 speed.
I’ve just been looking at that one too :)

I really do need to sit in some as at 5’9” I’m a bit unsure if lowered floors would work

Those wheels looking utterly fucking moronic on it.

My days of not taking restomodders seriously are certainly coming to a middle.

Charlie Metcalfe is selling a very nice looking E34 M5. £35k so I think I missed the boat on prices but that's cheap compared to the 285k km Touring for sale in Ireland.

I keep looking at this Jobbo. It's a lot cheaper than £35k and still has a decent engine :D
Send me links to cars for sale with throttle bodies.

That looks nice Chris, and I don't think there's nearly as much between them to drive as the prices would indicate. Plus cheaper servicing on the 525i. If the sills aren't rusty I'd be buying that if I were you. It's more than I paid for any of my E34s but it won't depreciate now.

Looking at an Alpina B7 or an M760Li, the sensible options are 740d, Range Rover, Bentayga, S63 Coupe, all “better” on paper, but as I don’t actually need a 2nd car, but here I am, drawn to the v12 and the tuning possibilities.

The fact that I can list a Bentley as the sensible option tells you everything you need to know.

Do BMW still offer an extended warranty for reasonable money?

If not some brave pills needed on either of those

Not so much the exhaust, but how much better does the nose look with a colour matched bar?

Cheers,

Difficult choice, even more so if they were priced more equally. I actually think that the v8 is more problematic than the v12.

Good point on the warranty, BMW make things difficult when sold via a private dealer. The flip side, is that independents are much better than the dealerships for anything other than an oil change in my experience.

My unique sense of style would push me to a current 7 series if I was spending that much tbh. Modern lux cars are so quiet and efficient that the big engine seems kind of pointless when you get the same performance from an I6 hybrid system.

In other news I’ve been trying to convince a mate to buy a V10 S8 and twin turbo it

John wrote: Wed Mar 25, 2026 6:49 pm I'm still casually looking at Caterhams as a future purchase. I'm not after bonkers power as it will be a road car so would prefer something I can rev out through the gears occasionally and not be doing licence losing speeds in a few seconds. I'm also looking at newer models so this brings me to the 1.6 Ford Sigma engine which has a maximum power of 152bhp

This one is nice, hardly used and I like metallic white cars. It's just had the price dropped by 2k too

That looks lovely. Only thing I’d potentially want on top of that spec is the 6-sp, and maybe some different alloys but a second set is always useful.
I've been having another look at this Caterham and as Jobbo suggests different wheels might look better. I know many people don't like darker wheels but I think a simple colour change of the original wheels improves things

Graphite looks better I think. Might be the lighting/rendering, but in black the wheel and tyre merge too much.

I think black would look alright in the flesh, until caked in brake dust. Graphite would be my preference. The car itself has a nice monochrome look overall with the pearl white paint and black details, so the silver wheels stand out more than they ought.

I'd still be tempted to get another set of wheels even if you're changing the colour of those. A set of brand new Apollo alloys from Caterham with the wider rears (but without tyres) is £1120 inc VAT in black with polished rim, which I think is excellent value: https://caterhamparts.co.uk/92-lightweight-13-apollo
This sold set were advertised for £650: https://racecarsdirect.com/Advert/Detai ... -wheels-x4

Another vote for the anthracite here (satin as opposed to gloss anthracite could also look good).

If you do buy a car from that particular dealer make sure all the work has been done. There’s a bunch of random jobs Caterhams like repacking bearings, frequent clutch fluid changes, making sure certain bolts are done up tight etc. They’re the ludicrously overpriced ones who gave Aston Martin after sales a bad rep and unfortunately took over from the excellent Caterham owned Gatwick branch.
How about not having a sig at all?
