Too many on the whole this year, kinda been ruined by AI now that you can spend a second typing a prompt for it to generate anything.

Discogs quietly rolled out a new feature this morning called SpinMatch. It is a dating service built directly into the app that matches you with potential romantic partners based entirely on your collection and wantlist data. No photos. No bios. No swiping. Just your records.

The algorithm cross-references median collection value, genre distribution, wantlist overlap, grading consistency across marketplace sales, and what Discogs is calling your “format loyalty score,” which measures how committed you are to a single format versus dabbling across vinyl, CD, cassette, and 8-track.

You can set filters. Maximum percentage of represses in a match’s collection. Minimum number of original pressings. Country of pressing preference. There is even a toggle called “No Shelf Mixers” that eliminates anyone who alphabetizes by first name instead of last.

The premium tier, $9.99 a month, unlocks “Deep Crate” access. This lets you see whether a potential match stores records inside or outside the outer sleeve, whether they use poly or rice paper inners, and how frequently they update their collection. One beta tester told Vinyl Factory she ended a match instantly after discovering the person had not logged a new record in over eight months. “Dead collection, dead conversation,” she said.

Early beta results have been strong. Couples who matched on overlapping wantlists had a 74% rate of proceeding to a second date, compared to 12% on traditional apps. Matches built around shared ownership of original UK pressings on 4AD or Factory Records showed the highest compatibility scores overall.

Some complaints have surfaced. The algorithm appears to penalize small but highly curated collections, favouring quantity over taste. SpinMatch also weights Goldmine grading accuracy heavily, which has led to a wave of users frantically re-grading their entire collections before entering the dating pool.

Full rollout expected by end of Q2. No word yet on whether mutual ownership of a VG+ original pressing of Loveless qualifies as grounds for engagement. #recordcollection #vinyl #music
