My car seems to be leaning more than the Lotus for some reason.

Yes it wasn't fun going past first... had a brief clenching moment until I saw the livery on the van

Salon Privé in Chelsea on 18-20th April. I’m going 19th if anyone wants to know which day to avoid! 😁
Cheers,

Since @Jobbo has a shiny new car perhaps it's time to start thinking about a long overdue meet up?

@Marv maybe you'll let in a few non-purple cars? ;)

We should indeed. I have spent much time lingering over Amethyst on the Porsche Paint to Sample configurator so I’d love to see Marv’s 968 again too.

Are there still parts of Herts/Essex which aren’t full of traffic? I don’t mind visiting my old stamping ground.

Is it really 18 months since that meet?? : shock:

I’m game. No fuel issues for me! Unless we delay another 6 months until I buy Fun Car.

Dates?

Or we just all visit Jobbo’s house for a nice cuppa if there is no petrol left.

The meet was September 2023 - that's two and half years ago?!

If there is no fuel the easiest way to get to us is by canal boat from Worcester Shrub Hill station

Probably not many. A507 east of Baldock is good, but can be busy. I think you could pretty much continue from Buntingford all the way towards Cavendish where we had lunch on the Suffolk meet, but I can't remember the roads specifically. There's probably more people in the south west is there? So if we can coax anyone keen from the east across a bit perhaps there's better roads?

I'm happy to travel a bit if needed.

I am in.

Can't believe that meet up was 2.5 years ago. That's nuts.

I'm up for something too, funnily enough was thinking recently about how the Suffolk meet was over a year ago now.

As for location, I would defer to anyone with better knowledge of good roads and meeting places. Anything from Suffolk/Essex across to Oxfordshire/Berkshire works for me.

I suspect there are some decent roads south of the Newbury/Wantage/Hungerford triangle we used last time but I don't know them so well - only ever use them when passing through to the south coast. If we were to go east of there (south of Basingstoke, south west of Guildford sort of area) is that busy and are the roads fun?

I used to enjoy the area NW from St Albans - up north of Aylesbury, south of Milton Keynes, between the A5 and A41 - but that was 20 years ago and again I suspect is busier and the roads will have had speed limits reduced.

Northumberland's still quiet...

May be potential that way on but annoyingly the A272 west of Petersfield (i.e. towards Caffeine and the Machine (which I presume may have prompted them)) has now been made average speed camera IIRC and also the A32 running north/south apparently. Google streetview only has until 2023 so doesn't show it.

South East of Petersfield is too far SE for most I think plus the last two occasions of going that way, despite being an epic drive, I got a puncture and ruined another tyre on a mystery pothole that I didn't even notice. Probably too narrow for the M5 anyway.

So is the conclusion we're going to pop by @mik house then??

I think we're in a balance between central-ish South England (to get the most people along) vs further afield to find the better roads.

I used that part of the A272 for the first time last year and when I saw the average speed cameras I assumed it must be because of C&M opening along there. I have owned a lovely book dedicated to the A272 for years: https://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/Book ... 7&dest=GBR - so it was nice finally to use it.

What about the B660 in Bedfordshire - is that now a shadow of its former self after being mentioned in Performance Car and Evo for so long and attracting enthusiastic drivers?

I use the B660 (at least the bit from Kimbolton to the A14) on occasion, it's not overly busy. A few (well probably quite a few) years ago now, @Marv, YK and I met at Buntingford petrol station, did the A507 west, then cut across and did B660 etc up to somewhere north of the A14 and had lunch. There were a few fun stretches and think there are a few decent pubs up that way too.

We (some or all) could skip the A507 if it's too far east and just do the B660. I don't think the evo stuff is relevant in terms of traffic anymore.
