No F1 thread?
Re: No F1 thread?
I wish we had the battery graphics all the time, really need it for context. Enjoyed the Ferrari battle but it really was the only thing going on all race. And well done Antonelli.

2 fewer races for the trick Mercedes engine and more time for the rest to catch up.

Yes, Toto said it felt like they had all 3 top positions with HAM being one, which was a nice gesture. Happy for Kimi and the cars looked a bit spikier than previous which I like.. the two Ferraris sparring was very impressive and I hope we’ll see George and Kimi doing similar in the future.
The slow down mid straight is annoying and I hope there’s some clever battery development/capacity change so they reach max speed just prior to the brake point, but take the point Duncs makes about different driving strategies at the corner offering an additional opportunity to show off their skills.
Ollie is consistently good which is exciting aswell.. I wonder where he’ll end up next season if he continues with his good form?
TL;DR this season is better than I thought it’d be

Re: No F1 thread?
Northallerton said he made accidental overtakes due to the differences in energy reserves at Australia, I think the track will make a massive difference to how they can race, the wide sweeping corners in china lend themselves to side by side racing. I’m expecting monza to be a shitshow
Re: No F1 thread?
Baku will be good, wonder how much the cars will derate by the end of the straight. They seem to be showing much fewer onboards as a solution to the clipping. Also noticed the onboard cameras must be super wide angle this year to make up for it. When Max was coming into the pit lane he looked 100 metres behind the car in front. Cut to the track side camera and he’s 2 metres behind. Just a stupid choice when it makes the wheel to wheel battles also look less impressive.

Re: No F1 thread?
Was wondering how they did it since the teams did say they didn’t want that broadcast
The absurd thing is go on any onboard for any car and you can see their battery levels on the dash. So the teams can all see each others battery levels. What’s the point of hiding it from the viewers?!

Was meaning to comment on that. Bearman was doing well in the latter parts of last season, and he's continued that form. Would be good to see him in a really fast car.
What an era for British drivers!
Re: No F1 thread?
Have you noticed the onboard speed? It goes up as the accelerate down the straight then stops and stays static ignoring them slowing, then as they hit the brakes it drops massively in an instant?Mito Man wrote: Sun Mar 15, 2026 9:16 pm Baku will be good, wonder how much the cars will derate by the end of the straight. Re: No F1 thread?
Funny how all the drivers whose cars are not going well are saying the regs are crap, and the ones at the front are saying how great they are.
Honest governor, I'd be saying the same thing even if I was winning...
Re: No F1 thread?
Did it just lose connection momentarily at the end of the straight?jamcg wrote: Mon Mar 16, 2026 6:49 am

Anyway: this is quite interesting
Re: No F1 thread?
I did read that the Mercedes had some weird telemetry issues going on, so maybe the other cars are ok. Then again between the FIA and Liberty Media I’m sure you can find enough slimy pricks to fill Parliament.

Re: No F1 thread?
Great to see the McLaren's being competitive. Clearly Kimi was the quickest car, I think Piastri had a shot at winning if it wasn't for the safety car, but that was because George was carrying his set up issues and hence why he couldn't take Oscar. I think Kimi would have taken Oscar if he found himself in P2, but impressive that Oscar could hold off the rest of them from P2.
It's just nice to see three teams competing fairly closely at the front though.

Re: No F1 thread?
In case anyone was wondering why the start was later than it was supposed to be this is why. Confirmed driver has not suffered any serious injury
Re: No F1 thread?
I was genuinely baffled by some of the overtakes this morning, didn’t see them coming, none to do with drivers skill. I suspect we now have 22 Bernie buttons and it will quickly become old and unwatchable.
Re: No F1 thread?
Ended up not watching this one, not even the highlights. Seeing the cars going slow at the Esses to recharge and then dying before hitting 130R during quali was enough for me. Then I saw a clip this morning of Hamilton’s engineer telling him to go slower in the corners to have more battery on the straights so that he’s faster overall.
Maybe I’ll get back into it next month…

Re: No F1 thread?
I've not even been checking results. I caught 5mins today, from a distance (it was on at the other end of the room while I was cooking) and it looked utterly wank with the whole drop off on the straights.
I wouldn't blame Verstappen for nobbing off to do something more interesting.

Bortaletto commented after the first race that he overtook people he wasn’t planning on overtaking just because he had energy and they didn’t.MikeHunt wrote: Sun Mar 29, 2026 9:05 pm I was genuinely baffled by some of the overtakes this morning, didn’t see them coming, none to do with drivers skill. They need to sort the closing speed issue, it caught Ollie out today and he’s very lucky not to be in a right sorry state. A 50g impact and a knee/ankle knocker to walk off is extremely lucky
