M5 test drive report and new car thread
Re: M5 test drive report and new car thread
Just confirmed collection date - 31 March. That's over a week away still. Damn, it's going to be a long week... And I need to make sure I don't have to fill up the S6 again with fuel so I'll be driving like Miss Daisy to eke it out

Nice choice SJJ. Especially the colour, obvs. Just looked up the 0-100, not slow is it

As per everyone else, an excellent choice and a great colour.

I thought you did. Nevermind.Matty wrote: Mon Mar 23, 2026 2:29 pmI did?DeskJockey wrote: Mon Mar 23, 2026 12:24 pm How's the insurance going to work out on it? Wasn't it @Matty that had questions about high power vehicles (for the Alfa?) when trying to get insurance?
I think I got stressed after one company changed their quote (for reasons I forgot) and I then struggled to find anyone charging less than £1k....that was more due to the increasing theft risk due to a known vulnerability, I believe.
Be interesting to know what the M5 is like to insure in isolation - obvs for Simon it'll be insured as part of his full fleet so not a true representation.

@DeskJockey and @Matty I now have the insurance quote. £577 for the year from 31 March, which is about £130 less than the S6 would be.DeskJockey wrote: Mon Mar 23, 2026 8:50 pmI thought you did. Sadly the Cayenne is proving expensive to insure, so I imagine the M5 will double on renewal next year.

That's silly. I pay about 80% of that for the Zoe. A 90hp EV worth £4-5k on a good day.Jobbo wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2026 3:42 pm@DeskJockey and @Matty I now have the insurance quote. £577 for the year from 31 March, which is about £130 less than the S6 would be.DeskJockey wrote: Mon Mar 23, 2026 8:50 pmI thought you did. Its also cheaper than my wife's Smart ForFour
Re: M5 test drive report and new car thread
That's insanely cheap for a car of that cost and calibre.
I noticed Chris Slix (or whatever his name is) has one he's getting back on the road after an accident....it looks like a minor nudge would roll into 5 figures easily.
Maybe lawyering is the route to cheap insurance.... my online course in Bird Law might come in handy after all.

Nice, I suspect the S6 would have been out of my budget although had you kept it another year or two, I would likely have asked.
Having just got rid of the S5 and gone back to a diesel estate, I suspect I would get lynched if I suggested changing again!
I have seen the colour (I think) on smaller Beemers and it looks lovely. Will go nicely with the Cayenne's leather?
