Parents car you hated most as a kid
Re: Parents car you hated most as a kid
My dad swung wildly from really cool stuff to absolute shitters, the worst he owned was an Austin Maxi, the only one worse than that was an FSO Polonez he rented for a trip to Machrihanish, it felt like it had slinkys for springs.
An absolute unit
Re: Parents car you hated most as a kid
My Dad would be best described as a value buyer of cars currently on his 2nd Duster in his late 70's.
He has pretty much always bought new and had a Mini when I was born in 76 which was replaced for a more suitable family car. A viper green Skoda Estelle 105 saloon this was replaced around 83 with yep a facelift 120 saloon in riviera blue. Thankfully my mother had enough of the I believe hot start issues as she was working as a merchandiser and driving it much more than Dad.
Skoda replaced with a beige Vauxhall Nova in 85 which saved me from some bullying as I approached High School
A year or so later my mother had been promoted and wanted something nicer so we were back at Vauxhall looking at a Manta, yes I was about to be cool. Same weekend we also went to the Ford dealer to look at a Capri and the dickhead bought a 5dr Sierra 1.6L there and then, I was gutted as was my mum.
Within a year my mum had started having company cars every 2 years so we had a load of basic shit boxes starting with a Maestro, Montego, couple of Astras, Sierras and Peugeot 405s.
My Dad at this point fancied a motorbike which again I had high hopes for until he turned up on a brand new MZ! Ringadingading

My Dad briefly had a mk3 Escort company car that was shit. And the Polo breadvans my Mum has were fairly uninspiring.
Otherwise, between both parents, it was
Renault 5
Renault 16
Renault 30
Citroen BX 16RS
Citroen BX 19GT Digit
Renault 25 TXE Executive
Citroen BX 17DTR estate
Citroen AX 1.0

Re: Parents car you hated most as a kid
When my dad passed away in 1997 my mam swapped the g reg Honda accord 2.0l for a 1.1l Peugeot 106 that had a whole 50hp. I remember her dropping me off at a scout camp in it, going up Sutton bank (1 in 4 gradient) and it topping out at about 25mph. That thing was shite. Her then job as a home carer meant she went to some ropey areas, and it had about 6 stereos nicked out of it- but they didn’t smash a window, they stuck a screwdriver through the metal door skin just under the lock and wiggled it to pop the lock, eventually she just left it unlocked everywhere because it meant less damage
Re: Parents car you hated most as a kid
Dad mostly had company cars until he started his own practice.
Ford Cortina 1.6 Estate
Austin Maestro Hatch*
Vauxhall Cavalier Hatch GLS Mk2 (written off after a few months by some utter twat who was driving too close)
Vauxhall Cavalier Hatch GLSi Mk2 (temporary car for a year or so because of the above)
Vauxhall Cavalier Hatch CDi Mk2 (with a body kit I've never seen since)
Vauxhall Cavalier Hatch CD Mk3 (can you spot a trend here?)
Fiat Tempra Saloon
Ford Focus Hatch Mk2
Skoda Octavia
I can still feel the suede of the Cortina's booster seat itching the back of my legs as a nipper.
*Random factoid about the Maestro. It was another company car. When it was dropped off at Dad's office in London by the nice man at British Leyland, after dad'd signed for it the man noticed that it had a rear wiper fitted. He swore that that spec shouldn't have had a rear wiper, so he took a spanner from his brief case and removed the wiper arm in the office car park, before leaving to go back to whatever miserable shit-hole he came from. I will never forget that. What a cunt.

Re: Parents car you hated most as a kid
Don't know that I hated any of my dad's cars, but I was embarrassed by the 1977 mk1 Polo we had briefly in the 90s. Thinking back it was when he was out of work and didn't have a company car, so needs must. Otherwise the list goes (during my lifetime):
Peugeot 404 (white, brown interior, yellow sunroof thing)
Simca 1302 (company car)
Opel Kadett 1.2 in hospital green, later maroon.
MK1 Escort 1.3 in brown. Drank like it had a hole in the tank (mum's)
Mini 850 (mum's)
VW Golf 1.8 Club (company car, had a phone!)
Aforementioned Polo
Mazda 626 1.6 x2
E30 318i in "Bronzit Beige"
Merc 190D 2.5
Merc E300D
Skoda Octavia 1.4TSi
Nissan Qashqai x2 (last one is the current car)
At some point during the Opel ownership he came within an inch of buying a SAAB 900. I so wish he had!
Before I was born he had a Ford Anglia and a Volvo 544.

Even after all this time you still look at the Scorpio and think "what the fuck were Ford thinking?!"
Re: Parents car you hated most as a kid
My parents had MK1 Astra with rust orange seats that was horrible, I like all the rest though.
