Again, at what point does someone just take him out the back of the shed and Old Yeller the senile cunt?
Does she realise that is actually *worse* than him mixing them up?
She does realise that, right?

I heard a lovely fact on a podcast this morning. The last territory which Denmark transferred to the USA was a group of islands known as the Danish West Indies in 1917. Their name was changed to the US Virgin Islands. One of those islands is Little St James Island. Also known more recently as Epstein Island.
Re: Trump
This ties into deeper problems with the US 'experiement' which is that there's billions in political funding, entirely editorialised """"news"""" and everyone in that chain up to and including politicians and their representatives can openly lie with no chance of repercussions.Simon wrote: Thu Jan 22, 2026 12:23 am

TBH I don't think things should be getting back to remotely normal with the rest of the world without serious changes to the USs political ecosystem. They allowed an openly fascist, racist, adjudicated rapist who's been repeatedly credibly accused of noncery to stand for election; they just can't do that any more, and no-one should be treating them as a remotely normal political or economic partner till they tear that system apart and rebuild it from scratch, with serious safeguards in place.
Large swathes of their population obviously can't be trusted to take this shit seriously, and it's not just them who it impacts. We should treat the whole country like a failed state unless they fix it, even if they elect the most progressive, friendly, and apologetic government in next time.
They have got to sort their shit out. "Anyone can be president" has to end.
Re: Trump
Oh, and Trumps latest grift - the Peace Board with the $1bn entry fee - is now being used to threaten tariffs if people don't join.
At what point do the rest of the world just start dropping white phosphorous on these obvious gangsters?

Trump has also taken offence at France's reluctance to join a proposed Board of Peace, a new international organisation that he would lead. Paris has voiced concern over its impact on the role of the United Nations.
When asked about Macron's stance on the Board of Peace, Trump said late on Monday: "I'll put a 200% tariff on his wines and champagnes, and he'll join, but he doesn't have to join."

Ha! I knew about the transfer of the Danish West Indies, as it's the Appendix to that agreement that saw the US formal cede any opposition to Denmark taking control of the entirety of Greenland. But didn't know that about Little St. James Island.Jobbo wrote: Thu Jan 22, 2026 10:22 am I heard a lovely fact on a podcast this morning. It’s finally taking him insulting our servicemen who got dragged into americas war for ‘holding back from the frontline a bit’ for British media to finally start calling out his offensive lies.

Re: Trump
So was the whole Greenland thing just another insider trading scam like the first round of tariffs?
I would love to think Mark Rutte took Trump into the back room and showed him the big stick he was about to get walloped with, but short of threatening to share the Putin dossier or a signed letter from all the US generals, I can't imagine what that could be.
So we're left with the explanation that it was just another tuppenny-haypenny con.
It's like looking at the Mar-a-largo classified documents thing and realising it's not about the sensitivity of the documents, he's stealing the fucking paperclips.

And I wonder if his NATO staying back from the from line comments will have a serious impact on support from his own troops.
Firstly, a lot of them served in Afghanistan alongside NATO troops, and know the truth. And certainly from what I know, there is a lot of goodwill from the Americans guys towards the British guys stationed there.
Secondly, shitting on fallen soldiers, of *any* stripes, is an absolute and total red line to any soldier's mindset. And understandably. If you are potentially going to lay down your life for a cause, there can't be even the slightest glimmer of a possibility that you will be remembered as anything less than an exulted hero. The possibility that your own commander in chief *might* just decide that you were a coward or a traitor posthumously, for the sake of a convenient soundbite, might make you think twice about just how committed you are to the cause.

I heard that Trump and Hegseth were ready to send troops to Greenland a week ago, and were told "no fucking way" by even the stooges they've put in place of generals
