For what it's worth, Killarney is a nicer town although it is "Oirsh-Land" for the yanks. But that's not necessarily a bad thing for a short trip as everything you might want - Food, Music, Novelty Mug wearing an Arran Sweater etc...
However, it's probably way more expensive than Tralee which is probably all you need for a short stop.
My brother knows the town better so I've asked him for some food and more importantly Trad Music Pub recommendations for Tralee
