My wife's biggest gripe is the difference in hay quality for her horse at the yard it stays in. Was doing hay nets this weekend and spent most of my time picking out sticks.

I can’t remember the specifics but speaking with the farmer a grass field should only be mowed for 3 seasons and then should be ploughed and reseeded. Grass density decreases season over season and allows weeds to grow in the gaps. But it’s too expensive to do that now. He also doesn’t fertilise as much. Seems like everything is running on a shoestring.

There's one main supplier of hay in our surrounding villages who bales his own land and other land owners. Consequently it's pot luck what he turns up with!
