Seems like the only decent non run flat option in BMW star mark form is the Pilot Super Sport but they must be a 20 year old tyre by now.
PS4S available but non BMW star marked for the front axle.

Given the options do you go for:
PSS
PS4S but rear star marked and front not
PS4S but neither axle star marked

Am I clear as mud?
:geek:
If the RF SS’s are like the non-RF ones that come on the m2, they’re very much a summer tyre (useless <5°). PS4S’s were a far better option for all year round with very little disadvantage.
I would image they’re even worse as the tyre walls are solid but they do sell them in non RF version for the 7 series too. But yeah seems like the PS4S is a way better tyre regardless.

Does it even need ‘sporty’ tyres? Would a normal ps5 or whatever not be more suited to a big barge? - unless they don’t do them in the right sizes.

They don’t do PS4 or PS5 for the rear sizes. I think you get above a certain width and it’s automatically into sport tyres.

The Elise now has an MOT!

bizarrely the new test did flag up a couple of advisories that the first test passed!

one of my headlights was a bit off, though not the one i expected! I replaced one of the brackets last year, and that one was actually ok. The existing old one wasn’t, and was too rusted to adjust. Luckily i bought 2 brackets when the first one fell off, so i have the part to fix that one already.

the second was the rear tyres are getting old and cracking. Again, i have the solution in my garage, as i bought a full set of Yokos last year and only changed the fronts (which were cracking back then).

so all in, a great result!

He’s all tucked up for a bit til i find time to do those bits - though i’ll keep an eye out for the dry days (even though the tyres are a liability in the cold!!)

There is a "PS4 SUV" available in that size. Same speed and load ratings as the PS4S.

He ordered from Costco as they have £100 off Michelin.

Might as well add this from over the weekend. The 7 series threw an error about the SOS emergency call system not working - big obnoxious message on the dash that can’t be hidden either. Turns out all newer BMWs have their SOS system powered by a little battery back - usually located directly under the shark fin but accessed from inside the car. Depending on your specific model this is a job that can cost upwards of £1500 as usually it requires the headlining to be removed. I said F that we’ll just code it out. Any newer iPhone will automatically phone 999 if it detects an airbag pressure wave so it’s redundant tech anyway.

Got lucky though when I had a chance to look, perhaps because there’s a sunroof there was a small access panel. Removing it revealed the box containing the battery a few inches further inside the headliner. With my thin delicate fingers I managed to wiggle the bastard out and replace it gaining only 1 laceration.

Interesting to note that the new battery (lower) has a much lower capacity. Seems stupid.
Smashed the old one open in the vice but nothing interesting inside

That seems like a very unnecessary complication.

I know it's been mentioned before, but careful with the outdoor covers and scratching the paint. Still remember one of the guys at Paul Matty telling me the risks when I bought from them way back when.

its no pristine garage queen, there’s plenty of scratches already!

i usually have a rain hood over the top, but it keeps on getting leaves and shit on the rear deck and front clam, so i’ll try this one.

True.
I’m wondering if it’s a hybrid/EV thing but BMW tried to simplify construction so fitted it to all cars. (Thinking that on hybrids/evs when the airbag goes off they blow a pyro fuse to isolate the battery)? But then again you should still have the 12v battery working so no idea…

Alpine...

Went to the detailer to get teh PPF re-applied on tuesday. He found multiple paintwork defects which after claying and machine polishing are actually under the laquer.

Bodyshop have picked it up from the detailers today to fix. Unsure if i mentioned but when they had it the last time they broke the keyless entry on the drivers door. I put it in to rentec who then discovered they had broken the connector and bodged it by fucking it full of glue. So that in turn broke the switch and bonded it to the door loom. So it needs a door loom and a new switch. Thats been quoted and paid for by the body shop for Rentec to fix. It WAS booked to go there on monday...But since its now going to be at the bodyshop thats not happening.

Its just one thing after another after another with this. The frustrating thing is that the only thing thats actually gone wrong with the car has been a VVT seal since i got it. The rest has been caused by incompetence.

Don't Costco still refuse to fit anything other than RFTs? I've never used them because when I last went they were still trotting that line out, despite the fact my car's not been on RFTs since 2013

That's really annoying. Sadly that sounds a lot like my experience years ago with Renault dealerships. It's a shame as having to deal with them is what puts me off having an A110. I had one behind me yesterday morning and still have such massive want for one though!

I’m not sure, haven’t used them myself in such a scenario but given that you input your reg plate into their site and it then gives out quotes for non-RFTs that would be a mighty oversight from them.
Years and years ago I purchased a set of winter tyres from Costco. On picking my car up they made me sign a liability waiver saying I must retorque the wheel nuts after 40 miles or something. Got home and sure enough they hadn’t bothered to torque them up…
