Yep, I almost didn’t want to watch it in case of disappointment but I think they did as good as they could have done. When you’re following up one of the best films ever it was always going to be tough.Gavster wrote: Sun Sep 14, 2025 12:14 am Spinal Tap 2
If you have affectionate memories of the first Tap film then you should enjoy this, it’s got some great gags and some absolutely stellar cameos from the biggest names in music. It does help if you are already in on the jokes from the first film, but overall it’s a witty and entertaining follow up, although I’m unsure how funny it would be to non diehard Tap fans.
I’d give it 7 drummers out of 11

Play Dirty (Prime)
Desperately wants to be as cool, suave and together as Ocean's 11, but isn't.
Plot is thinner than the orange menace's skin, and what tries for offhand cool and bad*ss mostly comes across as callous and weak.
Premise is decent enough, bettered many times before, but it is just too over the top and hammy. It just about scrapes through by not abandoning the pledges given.
4/10 moody stares.

We went to see I Swear at the weekend. Having seen the trailer a few weeks ago when we saw The Roses and which I failed to review in this thread, I'll mention both.
The Roses was way better than expected. Olivia Colman is brilliant and the Devon coast performs an amazing substitute location role for California. I expected it to be a bit hammy but actually it has a lovely British reserve and that works very well. Definitely worth your time if you have nothing else to do; 7.5 out of 10.
I Swear was a must see because my wife and I fondly remembered the QED documentary 'John's Not Mad' and subsequent follow-ups about John Davidson. The film isn't just a potted version of the documentaries; it really stands up on its own and by the end there were quite a few of us crying in the audience. A wonderful film, at times so funny I couldn't even breathe as well as tugging on the heart strings. 9.5 cups of tea with spunk for milk out of 10. I've only deducted half a point because there was an Oasis song playing over the closing credits.

Watched The Ring this evening (for only the second time) as we’re trying to educate our son on the finer points of cinema and we’re in Halloween season.
“Horror” isn’t my bag really but I’ve forgot just how good it really is. Unique and genuinely creepy throughout. If you haven’t bothered with it recently, I’d thoroughly recommend giving it another go.

I saw it a few weeks ago at a preview screening through sky tv. Genuinely brilliant. I sat at the end for a few mins and had to compose myself before we left. Wife actually asked if i was alright.Jobbo wrote: Wed Oct 15, 2025 1:22 pm We went to see I Swear at the weekend. Friday saw The Sixth Sense which he liked ( he didn't get that the Doc was actually dead) but while creepy etc he wanted more scare so at his suggestion, we watched Insidiousdinny_g wrote: Sun Oct 19, 2025 10:53 pm we’re trying to educate our son on the finer points of cinema and we’re in Halloween season.
Certain types of "Horror" movies I'm fine with - the Killer Types (Halloween, Friday 13th etc) and the likes of Final Destination et all but Demon movies give me the creeps. Plenty of jump scares early on left me watching anxiously through fingers but I though it was pretty good overall, despite being very very like Poltergeist.
The "face behind the Dad" scene nearly gave me a heart attack...

House of Dynamite
This is a new Kathryn Bigalow film on Netflix that starts with an ICDM being detected and heading towards the US, but without any systems having spotted where it was launched from.
There's 20 mins until it lands, but what to do, given the US doesn't know who fired it - and therefore who to retaliate against (or even if they want to retaliate - was a rogue actor vs a state-sanctioned launch etc)
I have a bit of thing for "the world is ending" kind of films, and I enjoyed this
Would recommend it

Saw this tonight at the Everyman in Plymouth. It just makes you feel so inadequate when you hear about the lives of people like this!tim wrote: Fri Sep 26, 2025 8:34 am I went to the premiere of Luca - Seeing Red last night. Harris' film about Luca Montezemolo, with a live Q&A after with them both and the director. It was really good, deffo one to watch when it comes out.
He's an fascinating man, and answered every question after with a complete unrelated story.![]()
Enjoyed the production, music in particular. The Q&A was on after too, there was a bit of confusion on the F1 eras!
Looked like a tough gig for Harris filming it.
Re: The Movie Thread
Predator badlands even stupider and more sanitised than you might expect but, I still enjoyed it.
Really really REALLY turn off your brain and the fight sequences are decent and bits are very very funny.

Nuremberg
Went to see this last night in Stowmarket, which seemed appropriate since it's a bit like a war zone. Anyway, superb film. Russell "Who Ate All The Pies" Crowe and Remi Malek were outstanding. The 5 mins of real footage of cleaning up one of the camps was stomach churning. I guess we've all seen stuff from the war/holocaust before but I've never seen *that*.
Worth a look. 9 hung Nazis out of 10.

I Like Me on Netflix
Documentary from Colin Hanks about the life of John Candy.
It won’t surprise you to know that there wasn’t a single negative thing anyone could think of about him. He seems to have been exactly what we would have hoped he’d be.
What didn’t know was he got his start in Second City, a comedy group in Toronto alongside an amazing bunch of people. Dan Ackroyd, Eugene Levy, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, Gilda Radner with Harold Ramis doing the writing. All in their early 20’s
It’s bookended with Eulogies from his funeral - Dan Ackroyd at the start and Catherine O’Hara at the end. I’m not going to lie, I was in floods

This documentary is from the 80’s and is made up of actual footage from the soviets liberation of Auschwitz, and speaking to the soviet cameraman who shot the footage. I imagine those 5 minutes will have been lifted from this.tim wrote: Sat Nov 29, 2025 5:16 pm Nuremberg

Definitely not casual viewing, it is actually footage of a death camp so be under no illusions it’s a tough watch
Edit- adding extra warning that it features footage of not only dead adults but deceased children and babies

I really enjoyed that. I thought the trailer looked absolutely awful, but the movie was a blast. Loving what they're doing with the franchise now, check out Killer of Killers if you've not seen it.RobYob wrote: Tue Nov 11, 2025 8:46 pm Predator badlands even stupider and more sanitised than you might expect but, I still enjoyed it.

Bugonia was bonkers but very enjoyable although I'm still not sure about the ending, am 50-50 on it.
Roofman was great fun, a decent shout for something the whole family can watch and enjoy.
Cheers,
Mike.
