Maybe the opposite. Perhaps the owner is keen for his new spec to have lots of press coverage to try and boost the value in the future.

Someone on PH noticed it had paint chips. Ouch, hope they fix those before the owner takes delivery. I wasn't paying sufficient attention when he did the walk around - it was only towards the end that Harry said it was going to Jeremy next and the owner hadn't yet driven it.

That was my thought too. If they are splashing $1MM on it, hopefully either Eagle or the new owner is happy to spend another £1k to get the stone chips sorted before customer deliver.

I always think that about e-types. Very underwhelming on anything with a "sporty" exhaust. Ironically the standard more muted version on the normal e-type I drove was preferable. I'm sure someone must be able to "tune" it to have a less farty sound.

I think if I were being a philistine I'd do an engine swap and stick the V12 from a later model into a Series 1 with an exhaust on it a la Harry's XJ Coupe.

I wasn't sure if it was me, or the microphones clipping, or it was just too brappy. Maybe in the lightness brief the centre silencers have been binned leaving all the braps.

It sounded too "open" to me also. I've spent a day in a (hired for my birthday) 4.2 E-Type, and passed a good bit more time passengering & driving my late dad's '65 3.8 S-Type : the more mundane XK makes a fabulous noise. Lightly silenced (by today's standards) it has a really bassy undertone, and with the headers all being slightly different lengths, it has a bit of warble. Lovely.

It's nice.

It's not a million quid nice though.

And I wouldn't pay a million quid for anything* that Jeremy Clarkson has ragged around the Cotswolds for a week or so.

*cars, people, farm animals, etc.
