Definitely the hardest decision to make as you say, knowing it’s for the right reasons doesn’t make it any easier. RIP luna. iirc you’ve got other dogs? How are they doing?

We were advised they believed she was 3 when we picked her up from the rescue centre – we were already her 3rd family, so she’d had a fairly unsettled time. Based on that she’d have been just 11 in a couple of weeks.

A diagnosis of Lymphoma back in August was followed by a very rapid decline in her energy and mobility. Meds ensured she wasn’t in pain, but the weight has just fallen off her over the last month - the vast majority of her muscle mass just disappearing.

Always incredibly difficult – even when it’s 100% the right thing to do for them.

A pic from when she was still healty.

I’ll miss my pal when we come to visit. She was an absolute cracker.

We’re down to one now > our German Shepherd (now four). They weren’t best buddies tbh, but it’s been funny how the Shep sensed Luna’s illness and weakening state, and switched into protection mode. Wouldn’t let her go out to the toilet on her own. Would invariably be found lying close to her for a nap whereas before they were pretty independent. Breed instinct I guess.

Cheers everyone. She loved people, was particularly fond (and tolerant) of kids. We think one of her previous homes must have had a cat too, as she always loved it when we met one whilst out on a walk.

So sorry to hear that Mik. I'm sure you gave her the best possible life.
If you get all wobbly-lipped about the opinion of Internet strangers, maybe it's time to take a bath with the toaster as you'll never amount to sh1t anyway.
