Ha! Mackenzie Hodgson, thought I'd give them a try as they appear to be doing deals. £637

Bennetts: £219.

Well that's that then lol

Ok so that was surprisingly painless in the end.

748 insurance cancelled from AA as it has 2 years NCB I can use on the S1000R and they won't touch that bike.

S1000R insured for £220 with Bennetts
748 re-insured for £97 minus the NCB

Job done.

So all 3 bikes insured for less than my KTM costs to cover

£233 for the RT (3 years NCB)
£220 for the S1000R (2 years NCB)
£97 for the 748 (none)

That's pretty decent in my book. Decent discounts for RoSPA Gold on all three helps as well as my age and non-Beirut location.

Insurance for every other bike has been very cheap for me, but for some reason the KTM is astronomical and most insurers won't even quote on it. With no NCB I pay something like £250 on the Gixxer and with NCB I pay £750 on the KTM. The BMW was under £300.

I wonder if the sparse dealer network has something to do with that?

I think it's desirability amongst the light fingered community, plus parts costs, plus nobhead owners. "Race Ready...whump"

Yeah, I must admit I was expecting a bit of a walloping on the S1000R for similar reasons.

I've downloaded an owners manual for the S1000R. This thing was clearly designed by hooligans for hooligans.

Launch control
Pit lane limiter
Lap timer
Riding modes that "induce drift when exiting corners"
Instructions for turning off ASC/DTC/ABS before doing lengthy wheelies or stoppies

What a hoot.

Oh! Is there a burnout section? The RR has one in its book, all written in very serious German engineering speak

"Consequently, you must always
bear the following in mind with
regard to your selection of a ride
mode: The sportier the setting,
the greater the challenge to your
riding skill!"

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

I also especially like this wording: "The thrust acoustics are on".
