Think a digital ID will stop them sharing a single login to uber eats and scooting around Crawley at 35mph on a modified e-bike delivering food, whilst returning to their undeclared cash-in-hand HMO in the evening, using a pay-as-you go mobile phone and 'Wise'ing any spare cash to their family abroad? You think ANY of that is stopped by a digital ID?
Yep, it will soon be needed for various parts of your life that will then be regulated. It will have zero affect on anyone doing nefarious activities and will turn into another leash for the people who get one.

I have a Norwegian one as I'm a citizen, I use it along with my passport when I go in and that's it. Half of my colleagues don't have one.

It's incredibly naive to think this will positively affect our freedoms. I mean there is a peach where Tony Blair is talking about carbon credits, what horseshit. Luckily the acid rain already killed the farms, the ice caps all melted, the sea levels rose and we ran out of oil so luckily all their previous money earning predictions came true.

Which is why it's fucking idiotic for them to have framed it in that context.

If they framed it as "this'll just make life easier for everyone, cut down on red tape in government and saving money long term], save time and simplify things. It'll have uses for immigration and tax evasion, but mostly we want to introduce this so you don't have to keep three copies of your entire families birth certs in the kitchen drawer for your whole life" then it'd be much less contentious.

The politicians have no idea, and neither do the fucking SpAds who framed it like this.

They say it’ll make it harder for illegals to work, who don’t have a right to work so don’t have proof of right to work, and don’t have a passport- the 2 basic things you need to get a job now- so how will this change anything

Just like the smash the gangs thing, it’s all bollocks. We’ve got levels of cocaine in the north east of England that should be a national Emergancy but you don’t hear anything about that- the police have been trying to bring down the drug gangs for 20/30/40 years and are still failing, so we’ve got zero chance of that approach working

I find it amazing that while we still have thousands of foodbanks in this country, they'll happily spend probably hundreds of millions, if not billions into a Digital ID system.

Only people who will benefit from this will be the hackers: one central database with super secret password123! access code for all the info they need for their nefarious activities!…

I’m actually a fan of the idea of an id card, but then realised I don’t even carry a wallet these days, so it’d need to be digital, and hope my phone has battery .. not sure how it stops the immigrants

Also, 3 bank statements etc.. how often does that happen irl? I can’t remember the last time I needed documented proof of id - even my bank uses my voice ffs!
Cheers,

yep it would be a digital card. They’re promoting it as making employment checks far easier as it’s a mess at the moment.

i don’t have much concern with the actual digital card element, i do worry/wonder how many tens of billions it will cost to set it up. How much did the crappy covid test and trace one cost? £30billion? that was a massive fucking waste of money.

More often than you’d think when you’re not an International Airline Pilot with a credit score in the high 900’s ;)

Although it’s all digital now (“Open Banking”)

The WEC is openly talking about carbon credits, travel limits, food targets etc. All by rich billionaires who think they know best.

A billion is such a big number, it's scary how normalised it is!
