Cayenne has a big crack in the windscreen from a stone chip this morning. It's heated and has all the ADAS and active cruise gubbins in it, so I'm not expecting the insurance company's windscreen provider to be able to supply the right one but I'd rather go to the main dealer anyway. Looks like a discussion to be had next...

I've got a lovely image of 'Wrong username/password combination' which I don't have anywhere to upload.

Strange - tested it on a few devices and takes me to the right place. Might be an outdated cache on your side?

Final trip of the year down to Oxford for the 928.org annual meetup this weekend.
928 performed superbly over a 1200 mile trip to the Scottish Highlands - never missed a beat. I gave it a check over before I went and found that number 7 plug lead was full of green crusties and number 8 wasn't much better, so I replaced those and put a new set of plugs in. Plug leads were just over £300
There's a slight occasional stumble at idle when the car is warm that I thought would be fixed but it's probably a leaky injector. Porsche ones are £270 EACH. Luckily, MGF injectors are a perfect fit (aside from the fuel rail O-rings) and not only do they deliver better fuel economy, they also give a tad more power. 2 sets can be had for the princely sum of £160. Probably going to be a winter job.
I've got a list of other minor niggly jobs to sort out over the winter, plus if I can carve out the time I may do the cambelt.

i3 aerial looked like something had been chewing on it. Plus it was at least twice as long as it needs to be.

Stepwagon has MOT this afternoon. Prep has comprised washing it, and wiggling the foglight switch a bit so they come on. Fingers crossed.

911 is back - clatter seemingly fixed which is nice after listening to that, most times starting it, for over a year.
I asked them to do an oil and filter change whilst it was there which they charged me an extortionate £670 for - if I did elective maintenance like that again I think it would be with 9e. Next December is a Major 12 year service on the car at Porsche which is also going to be expensive - apparently >£2k as it includes plugs.
Kind of amazing it is still eligible for an extended warranty for a further three years after that... all the way through to the end of 2029.

Quite expensive oil and filter! Or do they do a little more than just oil and filter?
How old is it? 10/11 years old? I guess they have faith in their product especially if you’re keeping it in the dealer network

Had a freak incident with the mini digger. Flat battery so opened the bonnet, connected the jumpstarter, turned it on and after a few seconds it starter spewing battery acid out the vent hole like a pressure washer. Bit confusing but after taking everything to bits it looks like the hydraulic hose got a pin hole in it which then cut through the battery casing injecting hydraulic fluid into it at 3500 PSI which was pressurising the whole battery.
Hopefully Tanya deliver the battery tomorrow so I can get it back and finally finish the decking for the goats.

It’s unusual for me to keep any car for 3 years, which in itself says a lot, the 550i has been an epic road car, as much as I love the M5 (and the CS would be in a 2 car lottery win garage next to a dan Elise), I honestly think the 550 is a better car, less asbo. It's at its best on a long journey, massage seats, self-driving and a level of comfort that puts it up there with any GT. On the flip side, my old 740d or even an SUV arguably did the same job as well, especially given the 7 has double the range.
The negatives, BMW stuck a plastic coolant tank above a hot engine, something that failed twice, taking injectors with it. Repairs were messy, and although sorted, it left its mark. On track it didn’t shine above 7 tenths, fine as a second car, but as an only car I need something more involving. I even talked to Litchfield about liberating 700 horses, but in truth it never needed more power and that wouldnt have addressed its shortcomings, maybe made reliability worse and probably exposed the handling further.
Financially, the deal wasn’t great to begin with due to high rates at the end of 2022 and depreciation heavier than my man maths predicted. For fuel costs, it averaged 19.8mpg over 20742 miles, which I think it pretty fugal for a v8 weight almost 2 ton. I put it on Motorway earlier this week, received a good offer and it’s now gone.
It was properly quick, a true sleeper that surprised more than a few cars. It’ll be missed, no doubt. I’m back trawling AutoTrader with a bit more purpose than usual.

I’m glad I got to see the 550i before you sold it. If only BMW had offered a Touring with proper power. The 540i was in a lower state of tune than the same engine in the M340i, even after the facelift.

The B5 is the pick of the bunch, rarer, 600bhp, 200mph and no msport suspension. However the b58 is probably a better engine than the n63, not just reliability but more suited to sporty driving.

Beru plug leads for my 968 were £125 when I replaced them over 14 years ago, so I guess £300 isn't too bad.
Though I did get the plug leads, distributor cap, rotor arm, coil and a new set of alu wheel nuts for just over £350 when I did that job. Half the engine, half the expense

Clio has done 8000 miles now since Feb 1st.
The fuel pump fuse died just as I was coming back through town, managed to park it on a side road with the starter motor and popped a new 30amp fuse in.
The fuse looked particularly manky so I'm hoping this was old fuse issues and not seizing fuel pump issues as the wife has a 250 mile round trip in a few minutes.
I changed every fuse in the TT so think I may do the same in the Clio for peace of mind.

No just oil and filter. Looking at the invoice £150 of it was just the oil and a further £30 for the filter.
