(Although from a production perspective I'd like the cymbals and hi-hat to be a smidge crisper / out front). Wads of energy and some sneaky snare and kick drum hits where I wasn't expecting them. 8-)

Really deep bass tones in this track too which creates some atmosphere.

Ecca Vandal.

edit: have just had a very quick listen on the proper stereo (via spotify) - there are quite a few aspects of the production that I don't like  - but - I do still like what the drummer is doing :geek: 8-)
Yeah the cymbals are mixed right back in both those versions, and I agree, not sure it's doing the song any favours. Interestingly it looks like in both cases the cymbals used (at least in part for the OG video) are dark, crunchy choices. Cymbals that sound great to your ear with lots of texture but can't cut through shit, especially guitars. Makes me wonder if it's a specific choice.

It is good, but they've done so much that's better. I can't listen to it any more for some reason, possibly cos its been overplayed so much! (or I'm a sniffy prick who hates hearing people shout lager lager lager whenever Underworld get mentioned 😆)

He’s not Jordan, I am Jordan!

(And so is my wife)

Will give that a go, usually have something dance/trance/drum + bass on in the van at work

This is predictably very good :D
Just hit play on that and when the first beat dropped, all the hairs on my neck stood up, instantly took me back to some dark clubs and big sound systems 8-) had to hit pause, am gonna save it for when I can properly get into it.

Took the lads to see Coldplay at the weekend at Wembley. I've not been a massive fan but love their first couple of albums and most of their singles.

Was a pretty incredible gig. They know how to put on a hell of a show and were sounding tremendous. I've seen some reviews of their tour saying its basically "feel good vibes for two hours" which both seems a bit harsh, but also a perfect way to sum it up.

Even little things like how they seem to have perfected use of the LED wristbands which really add a feeling that the whole crowd is moving in time with the music the whole time make a big difference in how it feels to see a band in such a large venue.

Very impressed with how easy it was getting to and from Wembley too.
Cheers,

Mike.

This afternoon, I'm listening to "Turn Back The Clock" by Johnny Hates Jazz

A perfect slice of late 80s synth-pop

It's a properly good album IMO - much underrated, and with that refreshingly "open" production of those times (as opposed to the overly loud, compressed pop music of today)

Give it a go...

I don't care what anyone says about Coldplay, their Music of the Spheres tour is up there as one of the best live music experiences on the planet. I saw the same show back in 2022, and the whole thing is totally mind-blowing. Agree about the wristbands being fantastic, because they make the audience feel like they're part of the performance too.

Anyone got any decent gigs lined up to go see the end of this year?

I'm off to see Elvana at Leeds O2 academy at the end of this month, who are supposed to be pretty decent and good fun by the sound of it.

Oh and Madness in the big arena in December, thats for the boy (9 years old) as they're his favourite band, I'm very much looking forward to that!

Not really seen anyone else this year sadly other than Peter Hook, and a few small local bands in the US and Canada.

I need to make more of an effort next year but not many people I know are up for going to see bands, and it's hard now my parents are away for us to go anywhere as a couple as our babysitters have gone

Just on my way home from Atreyu. Was really just going because I was invited but it was a decent show and nicely nostalgic of the metalcore times.

Got tickets for Bob Vylan in Nov and Metallica next year but nothing else lined up.

Keep missing Kneecap tickets.

Out for Hallowe'en this year, first to see The Amazons (their latest album, 21st Century Fiction is pretty good, give it a try) then followed by some techno at House of God.

I'm very excited to be seeing the legendary DJ/producer Laurent Garnier soon

I've always been a huge fan (his "Laboratoire Mix" CD from 1996 is something every house/techno/electronic music fan needs IMO), but I've never been able to see him DJ before

He's known for really long, meadnering DJ sets, and I can't wait.

We're also see Autechre soon - another hugely influential techno/electronic band who I've never managed to see live before

I kind of run a bit hot/cold about Autechre - some stuff I love, sometimes they do my head in!

It'll be an experience either way (whether they play a set I really enjoy, or if they go down the more "headfuck" route)

That's cool Dave - despite having a great reputation, I still think he's underrated.

I think I saw him at Fabric 25 odd years ago but let's be honest with ourselves, who can be sure... ;)

My recollection is the main room heaving and the other areas looking like a "wedding dancfloor at 01:30 am with Simply Red playing" - a single random punter dancing to an other DJ who's telling themselves "at least I'm getting paid."

And I bet that DJ was also thinking "I wish I was in the main room watching Laurent" 😃
