Thought we might as well have a general “politicians who think the rules don’t apply to them” topic as it seems to happen with alarming regularity..

No one will ever top this man - ex Irish Prime Minister Charles J Haughey

A few of his financial highlights:
In 1980, at the height of a massive financial recession, he appeared in National Television to address the nation and stated “As a nation, we are living far beyond our means”
All while wearing a shirt that had cost £7000 IN 1980 which had been bought on expenses.
He later bought an Island off the Irish state for £70,000. Which he immediately leased back to the Irish Army “for training purposes” - for £70,000 per year. He used the first years lease payment to settle the debt and instantly owned the island.
The Irish Army trained there 3 times over the next 10 years.
Let’s not forget before he became PM, during the height of the troubles, while finance minister, he was involved and caught in a plan to illegally buy guns from a dodgy German arms dealer, with state funds and stash them on border. The plan was to distribute them to Catholics in Derry should civil war start. 4 years later, he was PM.
