A-Team application

Post by mik »

I am currently in J.Foreignland. On LEGITIMATE BUSINESS.

Unfortunately as I am now OLD - I need reading glasses. Bums.

I removed these from my pocket last night and something caught on my fingertip. Whatisthat? :? I stared at my glasses and could see something sticking out where one of the legs met the frame. But of course, I could not clearly see it.

Phone out. Camera mode. Zoom in. It's the screw holding one of the legs on - which enters from the underside for some reason. Presumably FASHION.

I need a tiny screwdriver.

I do not have a tiny screwdriver.

I ask some colleagues.

They do not have tiny screwdrivers.

A local J.Foreignland based colleague confirms they are able to bring one into work tomorrow, and allow me to use it. Accepting that they may forget this commitment - I agree - despite some concern that I won't be able to see what I am doing without my reading glasses. Catch 22.

I am however fearful that said screw is now dangling almost completely out. What to do? :?

With the help of my inner A-Team, I suddenly realise that my shirt has collar stiffener insert thingies. Made of metal. I wonder if..... :geek:

Fast forward some clumsy fumbling with my tongue sticking out the side of my gob, and bish bash bosh : screw fully screwed in. 8-)

So I just wanted to advise that - if you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find me, maybe you can hire...... me. :ugeek:

Surely the right application would be for MacGyver?

I’ve used metal collar stiffeners as screwdrivers a number of times. They are a bit thicker than ideal and usually bend so you can’t tighten the screw up much but good in a pinch.

They can also be used as makeshift weapons, if the need arises.

Don't ask me how I know.

I believe that the correct terminology is "Collar stays".

Also, the correct terminology for colleagues is "henchmen".

Your glasses have legs? Are they not a bit cumbersome?

Does Miks wife know that when he goes away on business he spends time with something sat in his face with a leg over each ear?

This entire situation could have been avoided with a dab of Loctite 243.

You'll be saying you don't double knot your shoelaces next!
