Sadie110 wrote: Wed Sep 03, 2025 8:45 am It sounds like the E92 M3 has had a relatively light maintenance year with just a brake fluid change, MOT, and rear tyres costing £105 and £480 respectively, while the F31 320d had a more typical service including oil, filters, and inspection amounting to £260. Usually, a quieter service year like this often leads to more extensive and costly maintenance on the M car the following year, especially with higher-performance models like the M3 that have more complex servicing needs. Planning ahead for potentially bigger ///M servicing costs next year would be wise given this pattern.
Spooky, you have the same line up i had at the beginning of this thread and virtually the same experience…

When her name is Sadie110 and she talks about higher performance models I assumed she meant old Defenders.

Hats off to Tayna, battery ordered at 7pm yesterday and delivered today at 1pm.

A friend said the battery might need coding to the car, how would I know? I don’t think I’ve replaced a battery on a modern car before as I don’t normally keep them long enough to need one.

BMW need coded. If your stop start works then it should be fine.

If it’s just a standard 063 it won’t need coding

Had a great spin in my daughters Supra this afternoon. It feels brawnier than the 258bhp suggests, I certainly wouldn't feel short changed with one over a Cayman.

If that's the four pot turbo, with eight speed ZF, then that'll be getting well north of 40mpg on a run without trying, right?
</boring mode>

(quick look at the specs on wiki suggests it's a sub-6 to 60 without trying in terms of performance and it's mapped to have it's ~300lb-ft spread from around 1400 to 4000rpm, so yeah, that'll feel punchy)

Yeah, although I don't think it has an easy life and averaged 31mpg which is about 10 more than she was getting in her GT86.

Modern petrols are great for that. Our Superb has a book time of 5.6s to 60 but will return north of 40mpg on a cruise

Not far off what I get from the 330. Usually just under 22mpg because of a combination of stop start urban and NSL d/c with roundabouts.

That’s the engine out of my 128TI. It’s plenty quick in the 1 series and I’ve seen 52 mpg on a run back from Anglesey.

And…8 mpg round Knockhil 😂

The reason there's nothing on top of the normal service isn't due to reliability, it's because you only do so few miles

 That could be part of it... then again I think bad examples of these probably deteriorate standing still.

It should also be said that 80% of those miles are around london over speedbumps and potholes, etc. so low miles doesn't necessarily equate to an easy life. It's fair to say it has been much more reliable than I expected.

I thought this was related to their IT problems at first. Apparently JLR can’t access any of their parts so for now it’s £0 for everyone
How about not having a sig at all?

Haha - sadly there is an invoice of £600 for the service and MOT but yes apparently they can't accurately quote for replacement parts right now

After putting it into storage in November 2020, it went through its MOT on Monday with only a few advisories, and it's out of storage now. MOT advisories that the front wheel bearings have a little play and the rear disc brakes "Worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened o/s & n/s lipped " I'll tighten the bearings in the winter and clean up the rear brake discs with a PU disc, as I think they're just being fussy on that one

The fuel gauge is playing up a bit, jumping around and then dropping to the bottom. Apparently this happens if the float wires get gummed up with fuel varnish. Makes sense as the car has been sitting for so long.

There's a vid here which shows how to fix it...but I figure if I fill the tank with some lovely clean new SUL, it might clear the issue for me. I saw my old manager at work today who owned a 986 and he said he had the same issue before, and filled with V-Power which cleared the issue, so I now have a full tank of Esso SUL. Lets see if it sorts it!

Otherwise, I noticed after washing it, that the lacquer had oxidised slightly. So I went over it with a clay bar, polish and put a layer of Colonite 476. The mostly 32 year old paint seemed to respond well to this. Along with cleaning the windows inside and out, clearing out cobwebs in the interior, it took maybe 4-5 hours to do all the cleaning/polishing/waxing.

(pic taken before I cleaned the windows)

Hoping to drive it once or twice a week, until the weather turns shitty (which won't be long now)

M3'er

Got this back on the road a few months ago. It was also in storage from Nov 2020. It failed its MOT on one of the tyres having a very small cut in it. So I had that tyre replaced. Annoying as I'm planning on getting the wheels refurbed next year along with four new tyres. But my tyre OCD is triggered now, because it will be 3 new tyres and one that's a bit older

The aircon needs regassing, which can also wait until next year.

I've managed to drive it once or twice a week since getting it back on the road and so far, it's behaving nicely. I also spent 4-5hrs washing/claybarring/waxing the bastard
