Re: Car Hire Lottery
I was due to have a Jaguar F-type for our Perth/Dundee/St Andrews trip this weekend.
Unfortunately it has had to go into the garage so they have substituted it with a Bentley Continental GT.
Oh no.

Thanks everyone for reaching out. I value all of your kindness and support.
Joking aside I have been giving some thought to buying an F type as my next car and I think the F is probably more fun to chuck around Scottish roads so I am a little sad - still this will be an experience!

You can guarantee that a hire sports car based near the NC500 and Jaguar build quality aren’t happy bed fellows…

A mild tangent from the main thread content, but reportedly they're remarkably reliable for a JLR product.Explosive Newt wrote: Thu Aug 28, 2025 10:54 am Thanks everyone for reaching out. I value all of your kindness and support.

I'm keep an broad eye on the values, as if they get down to about £10-15k for relatively safe buys, I think a 3.0 S/C coupe could be on the cards.
Re: Car Hire Lottery
Leggier ones are already almost within that price range.Beany wrote: Thu Aug 28, 2025 12:54 pm

I see 440+ for sale on AT at the moment, but only 4 are manuels.

Re: Car Hire Lottery
Honestly the ZF8 I can see suiting it really well given it's a Jag. Probably why no-one bought the manual.

Agreed - I have driven the auto - they work fast in paddle shift mode and was fun to drive. To be honest I didn't realise the manuel version existed!
I think either an F type or a Cayman will be within budget for me in the next 6 months. Something with slightly more GT chops (i.e. the F) is probably where I am heading.

It’s not a Continental GT.
It’s a Continental GT Speed.

So sorry for your disappointment. If only the bastards could have given you something better, like a Dacia Sandero.
I sense you may become poorer in the long run after this

Probably the weekend’s fuel bill alone will be the route to bankruptcy!
Christ, it shifts, but it barely fits on some of these little roads around Aberfeldy!
Full report to follow…

Re: Car Hire Lottery
I don’t think they’re big cars, especially nowadays but the exterior shape is so rounded and the cabin is relatively high compared to the seating position so you have no idea where the edges of the car are.

Re: Car Hire Lottery
I was at *thing* a month back and a bloke had one there. It looked imposing but it also looked laaarge.
However - at 1.95m wide, it’s only 3cm wider than an F-Type. Surprising. 42cm longer though.
