Room layout software?

Post by Zonda_ »

Anyone know of any free software that will let us play around with furniture layout? We are having a wall taken down to open up 2 rooms and want to be able to try layouts before it all starts.

Don't know the answer to your question, but I've done the same just using Powerpoint and scaling from m to cm.

Insert a rectangle (or whatever) and it should flip to the "shape format" menu, at which point you can use the sizing in the top right corner to make a 2.0 x 0.8 m table 2.0 x 0.8cm instead.

L-shaped sofa is just 2 rectangles suitable sized and then "group" so you can move the whole thing around etc etc etc

Squared paper and scaled furniture cutouts ?

It’s what we do and it’s incredibly fast once you’ve cut them out.

Exactly what I was going to suggest. Very easy to use.

Yep, despite starting my career as a CAD draughtman space planning offices, on my own projects i still do this when needing some inspiration. That way you can get the wife involved too and everyone gets buy in before you start anything drastic.

This. I use CAD in my work most days yet when it comes to figuring out best use of a room give me graph paper and some furniture cut outs. It's very quick and intuitive
