Sunbeam Lotus story

Post by mik »

I’ve blathered on before about my first Wild Passenger Ride being in a Sunbeam Lotus with a capable wheelman. Still firmly etched in my memory. Hence I love them.

Good article.

I came close to buying one many years ago when they were sensibly priced, we drove over to Manchester with a pocketful of money and a mate to give me a lift. Turned out to be a rusty nail with an engine that sounded like a skeleton playing dominoes in a dustbin. That single photo in Autotrader hid a lot!

A few years before that I went to look at a Sunbeam ti for my first car. It looked fantastic but when my dad jacked it up to check underneath the jack rose but the car stayed put, more rust :?

I also nearly bought a Ti, but there were a couple of things that just didnt look right - chrome bumpers instead of black for example. I didn’t know enough about them to confirm whether it was a genuine Ti, so walked away. Probably couldn’t have afforded to insure it anyway….

Good article - i (re)learned a good little story.

150bhp, 960kg and RWD is going to be fun. It’s lighter (and faster) than the Esprit the engine is derived from.

I didn't realise Keith Adams was still updating his website, so fantastic to see that he is.

Ooh. Should probably be in the eBay thread, but Hubba Hubba

265 bhp (so just over 275 bhp/tonne). When my Euro millions win rolls in, its going to be really hard to choose between this and a Mk2 MST (Escort).

I’d want one with straight fog light covers mind.
