Car is all dry now. My drains were fine, just the plastic trim clip missing allowed it to lift and bypass the main drain. I think a lot of it is also just aging plastic going hard and not sealing as well. The X5 isn’t much better but comparing to my mums car which has been in a garage all its life the plastics feel supple like a car tyre. Compare to my car which feels like a hard plastic with no give.

Alpine progress remains slow but its progress at lease. Spoke to Rentec yesterday the plan now is that since the removal of the solenoids is a bastard job they are going to do some logging on a Megane RS280 they have on the solenoids and timing. Then compare that to what mine is doing in an attempt to get more information and maybe narrow it down more. They should have a better idea by the end of the week.

This is week 9 of it being broken.

Having a ballache getting my daughters Supra windscreen replaced, its been to Autoglass for the 3rd time today and the technician stated he hoped we weren't coming back!

I've not needed a screen for over 20 years so appreciate things have moved on with ADAS etc but you'd think someone like Autoglass can work on everything?

They don't share any panels or glass. Although the ADAS is BMW which seems to be the issue.

Interesting.. I always thought the windscreen was kept identical as it’s part of the car’s structure, ie for rigidity, so prevented additional manu/safety requirements

It's fortunate that BMW don't fit control modules on the floor of the chassis like many others do!

Common issue for Porsche Boxsters is people not cleaning the front and rear drain holes regularly which causes water to enter the cabin and pool under the passenger seat where the Body Control Module sits.

I never had that despite only cleaning these a couple of times (hello trombone cleaner) but just after I got the Boxster I opened the frunk and was treated to the sight of it full of water - like a foot deep. Obviously this happened just before I was to go on holiday.

After much investigation (and being fobbed off by youths at the garage who assumed I had just failed to close the frunk properly) it turned out that removing the tracker had left an unsealed hole which allowed water ingress. A small dollop of sealant fixed this.

I almost forgot to book my wife's Vitara in for it's MOT and suddenly remembered with two days to go, passed as usual thankfully. It's also had a recall for a replacement charcoal canister as some have been found to split letting deadly fumes pollute the environment. Booked it in and then had a phone call off the garage informing me that the parts are six weeks away!

Entertainingly, the drain holes around the E46 roof are at the bottom of the wing, and go all the way up to the roof, so if you happen to have them blocked and you leave the car out in the rain for a few days, you go to drive it and it sounds like you have a swimming pool in the back.

When I got the drain holes cleared, I'll swear five litres a side came out
