I’m not sure how much blame could be apportioned to the cars - the GT3 had old tyres and the M2 driver was way out of his depth!

My elise is very firmly at home on the track though - the drive home on the M25 was far from its happy place!
Same with my M3 on a Carlimits day back in 2014. Old Cup 1s started delaminating, so I had to go home early...was only half way through the day, so Walshy was kind enough to say if I return, I can have 50% off.

I never thought about the aspect of me going home allowing more 1-to-1 tuition for the others in the group!

Sounds like you had a real enjoyable day Rich and are getting the hang of driving the Elise like your pants are on fire 😀

Sounds like it's really helping you enjoy the Elise's strengths too. 8-)

What was the Elise like on the M25 in this weather? My S2 didn’t like traffic and I’d have to watch the temp gauge rise disconcertingly quickly.

That. i ended up doing a squirt of accelerator then coasting out of gear rather than just driving with constant revs. i saw some scary numbers on my temp readout (i have Davies Craig electric water pump with its temp sensor in it, so in theory a more accurate/immediate readout.)

I’d forgotten that I always kept an eye on the temp reading on my S2. The fan always kicked in and brought it down but the digital readout was probably Too Much Information.

I got a couple of videos sent through from the young guy in the Boxster (very nice chap called Reece) on the whatsapp set up by Andy.

1. i don’t claim these to be good!!

2. It was very hot and i make no apology for the tactical bucket hat. It was necessary.

neat-ish fun lap

scrappy laps:

8-) Excellent. What did you get your lap time down to? All those laps I'm guessing quick.

I'd love to know what time Walshy could do in my car. Do you know what he did in your car?

We didn’t do any timed laps this time - i’m presuming because the fella in the M2 was going so slowly he didn’t want to make the day about times. We didn’t do the longer lap either, just lots of the shorter circuit.

I wasn’t sure if the longer lap was specific to the play days or not - having only done one of each!

He’d be fucking ridiculous in your car! Apparently he has a 300+ bhp Elise that is currently in with a good friend of ours!

He definitely knows Elises well, after his first drive in mine he commented that the battery felt like it was moving slightly. We opened up the front and sure enough, the bracket was allowing about 10mm of sideways movement…. How the fuck he knew that i will never know. i had some tools with me so i quickly took the bracket off and bent it to suit the battery shape with some pliers.

Otherwise, he was pretty complimentary about the set up of my car, and he clearly had fun hustling it round.

Definitely a big Elise fan, he mentioned to me that he used to have a Honda. Would be fun to see what he could do in mine! :) I guess he's so used to it that he can notice lots of things, and when you're so comfortable with it you probably have the head space to be taking in so much more information while hustling.

He’s sensitive to it. (As per my reply - the owner hadn’t removed the strips on the base that the Yuasa’s come with).

yep, except the battery on an S1 is at the other end, faces a different way, goes in from the top rather than the side and obviously has a totally different design of bracket that presses against the top of the battery rather than the bottom!
