Alonso 6th, stroll 17th. Lawson 18th, out in Q1, Hadjar through to Q3 and 9th (12th after penalty)

Max 2nd, Yuki 20th after penalty but didn’t even make Q3 anyway.

George’s interview on the grid after was amusing. Asked about the first corner he commented that he had more points on his license to play with, and got a good cheer from the crowd 😄

Good on Lando for owning his mistake. Stupid though.

Just watched the YouTube highlights (which is becoming my norm rather than waiting for C4 ).

Feel for Lando, he's just too nice for the cut throat world of top tier sports. I reckon even if he does get on top of his psychology and pull off the championship he'll do a Rosberg.

I'm doing the same. C4 highlights are too long after, and with frequent breaks for ads you can't maintain the illusion it is live, even if you can overlook the sudden jumps in lap count.

Yep.

Stupid from McLaren as well. If they'd asked Lando to just sit back a touch Piastri and him could have passed Antonelli and had a go at Max.

Yeah, good on Lando, that's a mature attitude that many drivers lack.

I agree he lacks the cut-throat attitude...but he does have the speed in quali and the race, just can't string it together. Hope he can step things up and put in a fight to win the championship, because it'll be boring if Piastri just starts walking away with it.

Happy for George though, looks like he was great all weekend.

George has been brilliant pretty much all season, seems strange to say for Mercedes lead driver but he's a little bit underrated IMO.

As for Lando, it seems like he's in a bit of a spiral in his own head where mistakes ramp up the pressure and that leads to more mistakes. I don't think he revels in the pressure like some others do. He's definitely one of the quickest out there when he's in the mood though.

I'm a fan of Oscar, quick, consistent, pretty unflappable, and something about his character and his dryness that I like.

I’m really not fussed who wins the drivers title, as long as it’s not Max.

Obviously with Yuki struggling to trouble the top ten most of the time RB have no chance in the constructors, but Max’s presence and regular podiums are ominous, he’s not that far behind. It’ll only take a couple of duff races and the orange cars slowing each other down and he’ll be right back up there.

No one knows whose going to come out on top next year with the rule changes so this year is the best chance of a different winner before potentially another period of dominance from one particular team if they discover a magic trick no one else has.

I thought the same too, at the start of the season.

But now I think that if he can absolutely drive the wheels off the current car to win the Championship and do it in a non-dominant car, then I'm not going to begrudge his sheer talent getting him another title.

Of course, it's refreshing if someone else wins it, as I generally start switching off in periods of dominance.

It's great when you get a multitude of winners in a season, so hopefully some other teams will start getting their act together and start challenging for wins too (I'm looking at you, Ferrari)

My admiration for him grew a lot last season, it definitely wasn't a gimme. If he won this year it would be impressive. He continues to perform consistently brilliantly relative to the car's performance* when he's not crashing into people. I still don't want him to win, but he does appear to be the current top dog. Would love George to kick on and challenge the McLaren's actually. I do enjoy the fact the George is one of the few drivers that doesn't crumble when up against Max.

* - it's actually pretty hard to judge how good the RB is, but it feels like he's getting the most from it.

Shame Max got punted out.

Good job RB have a consistent 2nd driver ready to pick up the pieces when something like that happens.

Oh…

Thought it was quite exciting at the start, I guess maclaren were so confident that they were quickest by some margin they could afford to eat their tyres and race each other at the front instead of needing to work together to open up a gap. Would have been interesting to see what Max could have done. Ferrari had it pretty easy as ‘best of the rest’ with Russell 30seconds back.

The McLaren wheel/brake cooling tech must be incredible. They could go flat out for every lap and keep their tyres alive. I don’t think any other car could push for more than 4 laps.

Fascinating. Particularly the different design for Lando/Oscar. (Although the vid title is (intentionally?) mis-leading.
