FAO Jobbo

Post by dinny_g »

Morning Jobbo - is there a way of finding out about long dissolved companies?

I’m trying to find out about ownership / directors etc for a property company from that was active in the 40’s and 50’s

There is a current company registered in 2023 with the same name but presumably you can re-register with the same name of one that was previously dissolved??

Same name doesn’t mean anything, you’re right - if a company had that name but ceased to exist then anyone can register a new company with that name.

There used to be a service called Companies House webcheck which showed dissolved companies: https://wck2.companieshouse.gov.uk/ - only closed a year or two ago. But I don’t think it would have gone back as far as you need. Your best bet is to contact Companies House; you could order microfiches for old companies when I last checked - though that was many years ago, I doubt they would destroy their archive.
