Car reassembled and back on the ground but not driven yet. The new os ARB bush is a bit loose and from Googling, a few other people have had the same issue with this supplier, and received replacements promptly when they pointed it out. I’ll drop them a line. Everything else fine. It sits noticeably higher at the back now. Not surprising when the shock bushes were collapsing so badly ! I’ll have to check what the correct ride height is. The factory shocks are proper coilovers so it’ll be fairly easy to tweak it.

So that’s been upper & lower shock bushes, drop links, and ARB bushes all round. Overall not a horrendous job to do.

Spent the weekend at a proper car show down at goodwood, where I felt rather out of place given some of the crazy builds other people had taken. Still enjoyed it even if most of the people there were too young to know what an alfasud is 😄

Z4C now has bluetooth audio (music, not phone) working.

But fuuuuuuuuuck me getting it in there was a mission.

As was getting it to fit with the head unit flush without pinching cables, squishing things up etc.

But it's working now.

I might look into a proper android auto set up at some point, but not this week. And probably not this year. They all look like a complete cunt to install, particularly if you have the computer display option because of course they are

Audio from a phone is fine for what I need, which is basically sat nav, podcasts, and occasional supersexy swingin' sounds.

tried it again, shows up on mine?

i’m trying to decide if it’s a good plan to go near my exhaust with a grinder to remove the lump of bracket, or is it a daft idea that will risk me going to far and ruining it! 😂

Yep, working now !

Can you put a slight dogleg into the vertical bit so it avoids the broken bit on the exhaust ?

New tyres have gone on and wheels refurbed. All needs a good clean + some tyre dressing.

Hard to form much of an impression on the way home given it was all residential / A2 driving but they do seem to ironically be more compliant - again maybe not apples to apples as I was running "comfort" pressures on the Pirellis whereas these are pumped up more in line with standard pressures to perhaps +5psi all round.

Sat in traffic on a warm day you did get quite a whiff of "new tyre" smell which I was quite surprised by. Reminded me of that great smell you got walking into a bike shop as a kid.

Is that picture of a wheel post-refurb? Surely they would hand it over clean?!

To be fair that's once I was home and had driven across their dusty forecourt and the 50 miles home but yes I don't think they were spotless initially. You also don't really get that 'wow' of newly refurbished wheels when they are silver

Given that it was £580 for the set with tyres fitted and balanced I was quite happy with that and the inconvenience of travelling to and from Gillingham to get it done - Porsche Guildford's place had quoted me £250 per wheel last year!

Really now needs a rear bumper repaint to fix a couple of marks, a polish / detail and full PPF. Let's see how long it takes for me to pull my finger out on all of that

Wondering if Porsche did the refurb would the warranty be 24 months rather than 12?
I think Lepsons is now shit and only lasts 2 winters before the paint bubbles. TBH I don’t think there’s a good wheel refurb place left in Kent so what can you do 🤷‍♀️
How about not having a sig at all?

Evora wheels need to be powder-coated again. Done 4 yrs ago by The Wheel Specialist, but fronts are looking scrappy on several spike leading edges….

I was washing them with some purple wheel cleaner stuff that changes red when used (I forget the brand) but I'm going to refrain from doing that now as the fronts had started to speckle where it had eaten away at the paint. Hopefully that might get a bit longer out of them.

The main area that looks rubbish is the swirls in the paint - I think modern water based paints are just crap unfortunately and if you're going to keep your car decades rather than 5 years max, you really need PPF.

Mines on the back edge and started years ago, it’s at the point where bits of it flake off now when I wash it. Same happened on the M5 and X5 done by the same place

It’s like their paint doesn’t adhere properly and then gets moisture ingress.
I use diluted bilt hamber wheel cleaner but I image you can only wash them with the tears of a virgin angel to keep them intact (and even then I’m doubtful)

Sounds like Bilt Hamber?

This stuff is very good - better than other wheel sealants I have used over the years. One application lasts 18m+ and avoids the need for strong wheel cleaners during that period. It's also easy to apply if you just follow the instructions carefully. Borrow a few of mrs GG's cotton-wool makeup pads though, as they don't supply enough in the kit (imho).

I used these guys back in… err… 2018 to do my Porsche wheels and have been happy but tbf they’ve barely left the garage since then. They do (or at least at the time, did) the wheel refurbs for Northway, the local Porsche specialist I bought the car from in the first place.

Alpine update - Currently broken.

Suspected issue with timing gear. Either tensioner / chain stretch.

Sounds like the chain is rattling and theres is a slight misfire on idle.

It's currently at the Renault dealer that my brother works at.

The bad news is that a even a tensioner replacement means its engine out. Parts are also on back order from Renault so we've had to source other replacements.

Its been away for 2 weeks. Unsure when its coming back as they were waiting on parts before starting. Parts arrived Wednesday. Master tech is on a training course all week and they want him working on it.

You can imagine how happy i am at this particular situation.
