Re: Mental Health
Thanks guys, hope you're all okay too
It was something that dug up where I was a few years back, these days I'm largely in a strong, stable and resilient place which is cool. But going back there really brought a few things back. Anyway, it seems to have helped people which is all I wanted.
And it was easily the hardest video I've ever posted, really didn't want it to go up, but once I'd filmed it, there was no point doing anything else.

Re: Mental Health
Fair bloody play to you for posting. Even though mental health is better understood and accepted these days, it still feels like a pretty taboo/awkward/embarrassing topic to actively admit and discuss.
Modern life has brought new challenges with it and I think a lot of people are struggling a lot more than they'd like to admit.
All the best, Gavster! Talking does definitely help and this place is a good outlet.

See how many people tell you to talk about it, then when you do they scurry away and you don’t hear from them for ages.Alex88 wrote: Thu Jun 12, 2025 9:43 am Fair bloody play to you for posting. Thankfully my friendship group has previously been reasonably open and supportive, but our friend passing (the one mentioned in not getting old thread) has really hit us all, his funeral was on Monday which was rough- but it’s properly started a conversation and opened everyone up to talking

Re: Mental Health
If people run away when we open up it’s either because they’re not ready for those types of conversations themselves and can’t handle it, or because they don’t have the capacity for it. I had a friend years ago who was often suicidal and I really struggled to deal with that when I picked up the phone or met them, because it went on for years. In fact, I could have inadvertently done more harm than good if I handled such a serious situation badly. I was there for him as much as I could be, and at the same time, we all have our own limits too.

Should explain my point a bit better, because you’ve highlighted something I hadn’t considered, however I was talking about another kind of peopleGavster wrote: Thu Jun 12, 2025 12:28 pm If people run away when we open up it’s either because they’re not ready for those types of conversations themselves and can’t handle it, or because they don’t have the capacity for it. I’ve got family members who are the type of people who jump on any popular bandwagon and preach it to everyone, but when asked to put that talk into practice they run and hide. They’re all show about everything and to them talking about mental health is the latest bandwagon to preach about but god forbid anyone talk to them about it. Basically they’re cunts of the highest order, and it’s all from a place of vanity rather than a place of caring.

Re: Mental Health
Anyone here get SAD?
I always get properly down, demotivated and really struggle between late October and January. From there things begin to improve as the year brightens up into the spring, when everything about me really comes alive again.
There's a lot of people talk about light boxes, or even light glasses online. Has anyone used them for SAD and got any thoughts? I'm already smashing the VitD

Oh wow, no I didn’t see that, thanks for sharing. It’s a very compelling article, I now know what I’m doing first thing tomorrow morning
(admittedly using a Godox SL60 with a soft box, but it’ll do until I get something better)

Re: Mental Health
Also ordered one of these wake-up lamps which seems a steal at £36. If this is all about getting more light into my eyeballs then might as well wake up with it.

So I buy a HDR OLED monitor and browse the web at peak brightness in the morning amirite?

We had an associate who worked in the London office but was from California. He basically basked in front of a SAD light all day in the officeGavster wrote: Mon Nov 17, 2025 8:27 pm Oh wow, no I didn’t see that, thanks for sharing. Predictably he went back to the West Coast in the end...

Re: Mental Health
That west coast light is something else too, I can understand why the movie industry settled there, everything looks so good in the light there.

Re: Mental Health
I've done some SAD light every day for a week and I swear to god it's absolutely made a postitive change. It's not a pleasant thing to do, and as that articles states, you need to do it ASAP after waking. So now I'm doing 30 mins right after getting up and overall I'm feeling good, especially for this time of year
