TIL that the last V2 fired at the UK hit a street up the road from here, killing a woman who became the last victim of the bombardments of the UK. This was in late March 1945.

There’s a museum down the road from us in Hartlepool, called the Heugh Battery museum https://www.heughbattery.co.uk It commemorates both world wars, but in 1914 the Germans shelled the shit out of Hartlepool, especially the gun battery, and a private became the first uk casualty of ww1 to be killed on uk soilDeskJockey wrote: Sat May 10, 2025 1:41 pm TIL that the last V2 fired at the UK hit a street up the road from here, killing a woman who became the last victim of the bombardments of the UK. It could have been worse, he could have been in a cubicle.

I knew that was the venue for Chris Evans’ Carfest but I didn’t know it was owned by Jody Scheckter. That’ll be why I guess. Unless the festival has some sort of long term lease or contract I can’t see that a buyer would necessarily want to continue it.

I’ve always thought it a bit ironic that the Wren is a small bird, whereas I’m a big bloke. Total opposite.
Re: Randomness
2 dead, 19 injured on the boat.
Looks like to lost power and drifted into the bridge
Re: Randomness
How the fook is that an actual navy training ship? I’m more surprised it’s from 1982 - looks pre 1900’s.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Randomness
There’s a better video showing sailors standing on the masts.

I’m guessing hardware falling on you from 150+feet is going to do damage

Plenty of navies have sailing ships as part of their training fleet. Different skills.Mito Man wrote: Sun May 18, 2025 1:32 pm How the fook is that an actual navy training ship? I’m more surprised it’s from 1982 - looks pre 1900’s.

Re: Randomness
There’s photos just before with sailors lined up on all the masts crossbeams (whatever the proper name is)
One video you can see someone hanging from one of the broken ones
Cheers, Harry
