I miss the days when members would procrastinate for months on end then buy none of the cars suggested.

According to that Z4 forum link the biggest issue is likely to be detail stuff like ANPR checks etc, so if that is an issue I might look into how much of a ballache it is to change the colour with DVLA.

Even though it's technically correct, having to pull a torch to show off the metallic flake to a copper in the rain at 11pm at the side of the road would get old, fast
I doubt it will ever be an issue, especially given how many cars are wrapped these days. And never change the colour on the V5, as that will look dodgy when you come to sell.

I'm still confused why it took three assessments to determine it'd need writing off. I guess they added, for example, replacing the front bumper and blending a brand new Mperformance bumper into the existing 10 year old paint in there as well (which would easily add £1500 to the cost, probably more at main dealer/dealer approved bodyshop rates)

But the place that wrote it off knew that when they said they were going to repair it and it was going to take a month.

Fuckin' bizarre.

The 5-Series is going up for sale. I'm still not needing to commute to work and for the occasional long journey that's needed otherwise, the Disco is fine. Keeping both would only make sense if I was doing a lot of miles.

Ebay listing will be live at 8pm. How long after that will I get a stoopid question ? I'm banking on <5 mins

I posted on the M135/M140 UK group that the car was written off, and within minutes, I had someone telling me I should buy it back off insurance and sell it to them instead or something. I didn't bother reading past the first line of the message preview before deleting it.

Fuck off and scour Copart yourself you lazy prick.

A slow start I'm afraid. Nothing until 20:32 when I had a message from someone from Nottingham with one feedback wanting my phone number.

Mild.

Here's hoping the Z4(C) group is a slightly better class of people.

I had that with my R19 16v.

Bought for £950, written off (muppet came out of side road into my rear qtr), given £1000 by insurance, bought from insurance for £50, sold on for £400.

In a move which will come as a surprise to absolutely no one, I have lowered the Alfa.

I spent four years or so trying to find a spare pair of front struts to turn into coilovers. I now have a pair, however I’ve decided to make that a winter project, so have just stuck some lowering springs on it.

Image

I knew the rear dampers were well past their best, they run inverted and I could see plenty of corrosion on the exposed damper rod.

I’d been keeping a pair of old VW polo rear dampers on hand for just such an occasion. Similar size / weight car with a beam type rear axel. As it turns out they’re very similar length and diameter, use the same thread at the top. So I ordered a cheap pair to play with. Which are now fitted to the car. Not 100% happy with my bodgery but will see how it drives. If it’s ok I’ll have another think for a better way to get them on.

Polo left, ‘sud right

Slight problem encountered. There was about 3mm of suspension travel before the rear beam hit the exhaust. Wasn’t a problem at stock height!

Image

Out with the angle grinder, welder and a 90° bend I happened to have in stock.

A bit of choppy chop, reused the old 120° bend, and stuck a notch in. Please don’t judge the migged outside on a breezy day welds 😄😄

Loads of room 😎

I haven’t actually driven it yet so haven’t even been able to get a proper look at it from a decent angle, but I’m already pleased.

Turns out MX5s don’t do 40+mpg if you leave the inside lane. And the cobbles in Edinburgh are more comfy if you drive faster.

My wife's Mini was reversed into by another lady in a 4x4.

"I didn't even hit you"
"where did you come from"
"my sensors didn't go off"

Wanted to pay herself but the quotation of £1500 minimum has put her off. I don't think she has had a crash before and I don't think she unserstood half of what I explained to her, but at least she is now wanting to go through insurance.
