Snap. The NHS terminated my contract today in order to bring down costs. Time to polish the CV again.

I'm in information/cyber security. Have done presales, team manager, internal security. That type of thing.

Appreciate the offer of help.

We had a competitor (that i used to work for) go bust today, they apparently called all the staff in (c.35 people) to give progress on the new investment, then told them all they were redundant (and not getting paid.)

Were probably going to take one or two of them including a good mate of mine - bizarrely i’d been tasked with finding some more members for my team in a meeting 2 hours before.

Seems to be the way of the world at the moment. In the last year we’ve had two suppliers do this with their staff, just call everyone in and tell them they don’t have a job anymore, and tell us the stuff we ordered for our upcoming jobs wasn’t coming

Jimmy and Alex

I'm still taking a break since before Christmas. Don't know if the wife and kids are sick of the sight of me yet, but at least in my experience the job market is a bit crap right now. What with Rachel-from-accounts' employment tax hike, general economic sentiment uncertainty and that lunatic across the pond doing everything he can to fuck over just about everyone possible, employers aren't rushing to spend money on new hires.

I'm in the fortunate position that I can wait out a couple of years with my savings and investments, and I'm also on the brink of never needing to go back to normal employment as my alternative income stream is starting to take off. Nevertheless, recruiters are still arseholes, and even people who I knew and thought I could rely on to give me the time of day have suddenly gone quiet and uncommunicative. You certainly find out who your friends are anyway!

All the best with the searches anyway. Hope your luck is better than mine.

Definitely seems to be a lot of it around, my wife was up against a colleague for redundancy a few weeks ago. TBH our preference was that she got it actually, but apparently she comfortably out performed her colleague (and also friend*, awkward) in the reviews. Now she's effectively been left with two people's workload, so she's having try and adopt a bit of a forceful attitude to make sure she doesn't just drown.

Still, I guess in the current climate the security is probably better than getting a payout and being unsure about the future.

* - the friend had been there a long time and got a big payout, so they are relatively happy.

I hope everyone having issues currently get what they want as soon as possible, uncertainty is a big horrible mess of a thing.

This sucks, and doubly for you Alex having so recently been through it already.

The only advice I can offer is to start firing off your CV even to jobs that aren’t quite suitable (up or down), the important thing is your CV gets loaded into their database. A lot of jobs don’t necessarily get advertised if the agency can produce say half a dozen candidates that already match the spec. You want to be on that initial short list.

Technically an accountant but I've been business partnering and systems accounting for ages. I'm good at finding patterns and order in chaos.

Cheers for that.
