Re: Flightradar24 fans
Wow - I was expecting more of a bump and more damage when the nose landed. Still, I bet you could feel it in the plane. And you wouldn't have been able to see how undramatic it actually was.

Flight Sim footage
Re: Flightradar24 fans
Christ that’s scarily good graphics
does explain the lack of damage as the nose touches

Re: Flightradar24 fans
My wife noticed a noise. It was an Apache helicopter about half a mile away. Distinctive.

Re: Flightradar24 fans
Does it show where it took off from Jobbo?
There's some stationed at airbases close to me, and were very active where I used to live by the coast and semi regularly fly over where I am now (I also saw one tonight)

Oui, je suis un motard.
Re: Flightradar24 fans
Fortunately I didn’t close the tab so I could check - it took off from Wattisham so quite near you I suspect.
Here’s the full path. Landed at Sleap.

Re: Flightradar24 fans
Yeah, Wattisham is pretty close. I can see it from a hill just outside my village, though the flight path of that Apache doesn't get close enough to my house, that I'd see it pass over.

Re: Flightradar24 fans
I didn't check ADSBexchange for this because it was right over me. Spotted it in the sky shortly I got off the motorway last night and it was quite high. I passed a pair of pick-ups in a layby so assumed it was heading pretty much for them since they seemed to be waiting. Then as I drove through the village I could see it was losing height and looked like it was coming down in the field behind the pub - a good place since it would have been easily accessible to the pick-ups. It was low enough that I couldn't see it behind the pub building as I went past.
Imagine my surprise after parking up to see it approaching the back of our house, rather low - I thought he'd changed his mind and was going to come down in the field behind us (not nearly as accessible). But he stuck the burner on and cleared our house, pleasingly. As he'd passed over I spotted two paragliders following. Quite a lovely sight - once it had no chance of hitting our roof, anyway.

Re: Flightradar24 fans
There’s been a lot of stratotanker activity over the last few days, I didn’t get to my phone quick enough to see the height, but one came directly overhead lower than I’ve ever seen a big jet outside of an air show or airport!
I’m no aviation expert so hard to judge, but others seem to cruise by at ~ 2500ft, so this was probably under 1000ft
Looks like they’re out and about again today.

Trump sent them out to hoover up airborne tariffs, using those big roarmakers they strap to the wings.
Re: Flightradar24 fans
The RAF seem to be using the Peak District for low flying training more recently after being pretty much absent since the end of the cold war. Typhoons and A400s have been spotted flying through.

Re: Flightradar24 fans
It looked similarly close, in height rather than side on thought. Could clearly see the detailing around the cockpit windows on approach.
Wish I’d been able to get a phone out quickly and record.
Had a few go over yesterday. I do wonder if they look out of the window and wonder who the idiot with all the cars round the back of their house is

Re: Flightradar24 fans
I was quite surprised to see one of those looking massive and just sort of hanging in the air over Cirencester when I was heading back from Thruxton a while ago.
