Re: Your fleet running reports
There are plenty of 330i/335i saloons/tourings out there.. find a discrete one, debadge it and enjoy
Cheers,

Eh, they're the same inside as the M135i (like,I think almost literally) and I don't imagine they're better when push comes to shove, handling wise.
Also whisper it, but I quite liked the slightly shouty looks of the M135i, although obviously that has it's drawbacks

Re: Your fleet running reports
Surprisingly my Mondeo estate bike wagon passed the MOT today without a single advisory. I was expecting a couple as it likes to show its age with groans and creaks at low speed manoeuvring.
On the subject of getting on in years, the forum oldies may remember me buying a Clio v6 and this month it is twenty years since I collected it from Renault in Bristol

Re: Your fleet running reports
Front disks and pads for the x5 turned up, so I fitted them this evening.
Front pads also fit e65 760iL, e60 M5, RR phantom and Jag xf supercharged v8
Disks are silly heavy, 356 x 36, probably twice as much as a 345mm e46 csl disk. Pair of disks and set of pads was under £120, again surprisingly reasonable.
It’s in for the retest tomorrow so was nice to fix the fail plus remove one of the advisories.

Blimey. A 2005 car still feels quite recent to me.John wrote: Wed Apr 02, 2025 10:10 pm On the subject of getting on in years, the forum oldies may remember me buying a Clio v6 and this month it is twenty years since I collected it from Renault in Bristol![]()
I have been wondering why a 10-15yr old car is not cheap as chips these days. My bargain barge purchases were all under 10 years old.
Re: Your fleet running reports
Drove the MX5 to work today. Didn't take the roof down
Not the best location for a photo but since it was flat and shows the ride height, I took one anyway:

The tyres look a bit Carlos Fandango to be honest but they don't rub, feel much nicer than the OE Bridgestones in terms of ride, grip, steering feel etc, so I'm very happy with them.

Call from Copart asking about the personalised number plate (I don't care)
They reckon they've had it since Tuesday (fair enough) and it's 3-5 business days to assess so I should know by Tuesday coming at the latest what the crack is.

Ride height looks spot on to me. That picture does make the tyres look chunky
at least no concerns on kerbing.

If it's at Copart that sounds like it's already on the path to write-off no? Presumably they do more than just salvage, however, on that basis.Beany wrote: Thu Apr 03, 2025 2:43 pm Call from Copart asking about the personalised number plate (I don't care)

Probably part of their service to the insurers. Hold them while they’re assessed then straight to auction if they’re written off, saves multiple trips on a transporter.
Cheers, Harry

From the conversation I had with the insurers, I believe that's the case, yes.integrale_evo wrote: Thu Apr 03, 2025 4:49 pm Probably part of their service to the insurers. Hold them while they’re assessed then straight to auction if they’re written off, saves multiple trips on a transporter.
I expect Copart would assess, get price for repair BMW, then insurance determine if it's a write off based on that.
If not, then off to the repair shop (which would be BMW authorised in this case unless I specify elsewhere)
If so, then they keep it, basically.

Drift cars do literally nothing for me, for reasons I'm genuinely not entirely clear on, as they should be up my street, really...

I’d imagine they’re lots of fun for drifting.
Not a lot of fun to drive normally on the road without getting arrested.

Same year I bought my 968, but it was already 12 years old.Jobbo wrote: Thu Apr 03, 2025 6:28 amBlimey. I remember you owning the Clio V6 John, but not so much the precise period when you owned it!
Oui, je suis un motard.
Re: Your fleet running reports
I recall seeing a facelift 306 with it's reflector, not refractor based lenses (so clear) and thinking it looked incredibly sharp when I was in high school.
I still think of that as a nice, clean, modern design.

I’m happily commuting in a car that’s basically 30 years old.
As a teen in the 90s, if I saw someone commuting in something from the 60s I would have thought they were a bit mental

Re: Your fleet running reports
Modern cars (since fuel injection became the norm) are mechanically remarkably solid - I threw 50,000 miles on that Puma over 5 years or so, and mechanically, other than needing fairly obvious stuff like a starter and alternator and throttle cable, when it came to the actual oily bits, it was rock solid.integrale_evo wrote: Thu Apr 03, 2025 10:59 pm I’m happily commuting in a car that’s basically 30 years old.

Shame about the rust, but if you're smart about it you can avoid that too....
