Re: Your fleet running reports
I’m not sure about that. 135/140 are the hot ticket for young yobs at the moment, along with golf R, a45s etc. I’d imagine a hot 1er is far more in demand by dodgy characters than a z4 coupe, even if it has some value in parts.
Personally I’d rather have a manual e46 M3 with a carbon airbox and £10k in my pocket than a z4m anyway
Cheers, Harry

Re: Your fleet running reports
Fixed the X5, failed on an osf balljoint.
There are two, and as it wasn’t me that took it for the test, and I was at work I couldn’t see which one. So ordered a full arm set.
Tbh, even with it in the air, with limited access and the way the suspension was loaded it was hard to tell which joint it was.
Decided to change both lower arms while I was there.
The faulty joint was the lateral arm which has the joint as part of it. Really quite loose and pretty dry when I looked at it.
The other joint is bolted to the hub carrier which the front arm attaches to. Took a decent bit of hammering to get it out. The front arm itself looked in much better condition and much newer than the lateral one. Will keep that as a spare
had to give the tracking a bit of a tweek after.
Have ordered new front disk as and pads, retest isn’t until Thurs so if they arrive on time I’ll stick them on too. Much easier now we’ve got lighter evenings.

Wait, can you get an E46 M3 for that money?integrale_evo wrote: ↑Mon Mar 31, 2025 12:05 pmI’m not sure about that. 135/140 are the hot ticket for young yobs at the moment, along with golf R, a45s etc. I’d imagine a hot 1er is far more in demand by dodgy characters than a z4 coupe, even if it has some value in parts.

Honestly I'm probably looking about the £10k mark - I got a loan to get the M135i which is obviously still ongoing, cos I ain't the sort of guy who has £10k walking around money. Insurance (who I've just come off the phone with) reckon it's a likely write off, and they'd base valuation of book value, but I believe from people on here that if you go "er, have a look at Autotrader please" they'll tend to be a bit kinder - I'm expecting £6-8k maybe? I have a few grand in savings so tickling around five figures is where I'm looking.
Clean-ish E46 M3s look around £15k, and they're still a bit high risk for my tastes at the moment.
Courtesy car should be here tomorrow, hopefully by then I'll know what they're up to regarding the car, then it's a case of move on from that I guess.
Annoyingly, it's gonna be against my own insurance so that's gonna be a fucking pig of a thing. Never had to do this before so not 100% on the details honestly.
Aside, anyone know what A-MAN is likely to be classed at with Enterprise rent a car? I've tried googling and it's not clear. I'd assume something small and manual given the M135i is a small car (I'm not too worried about manual or auto so I just went with that)

Re: Your fleet running reports
That's fine by me. Just need to be able to bimble to the shops (And presumably, to people selling cars...)
Re: Your fleet running reports
Bear in mind that the courtesy car is usually provided for the period of repair - if they decide to write it off then they generally want the courtesy car back ASAP....

Oh shit I'm sorry to read this Beany, that sucks a massive donkey cock. I hope you don't get bummed senseless by the ins co.
You settle up, I'll go get the Jag.

Yup - as they're insinuating it'll be a write-off I'm surprised they're even offering a car at all.mik wrote: ↑Mon Mar 31, 2025 2:11 pmBear in mind that the courtesy car is usually provided for the period of repair - if they decide to write it off then they generally want the courtesy car back ASAP....
Z4M still seems like a nice idea....but what about a 3.0 non-M? Just seen a nice looking one on the trader with CSL wheels for 8k

That sucks, mate. If you're looking for a nice, well-maintained Boxster, I can help you out!Beany wrote: ↑Mon Mar 31, 2025 1:33 pm

A-MAN with Enterprise is almost certainly going to be a Fiat 500.

Re: Your fleet running reports
I think it's 14 days courtesy car regardless, but I guess I'll find out
just spoke to enterprise and they said yeah, corsa or yaris type affair.
Yeah been looking at local Z4 non-M Coupes and there's a few at reasonable prices. I'd just rather not be rushing into a car purchase, for obvious reasons, but I do need one so eh, what can you do.
Example
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-detail ... 6180863575

Be nice to spend a bit more time looking around, seeing I can find one with heated seats, more toys - IE if one has the iDrive, I could see if there's an option to do what you can do on the F-series and replace the screen with an android one, for Android Auto etc.
And yeah, expecting to get humped on insurance somewhat, but I'm old enough and ugly enough that hopefully it won't be too horrific.

Although more realistically I'm a bit sick of fabric roofs, sadly

Finally tidied up the shit show wiring for the remote central locking install. To test it, I'd used the previous scotch-locks that were fitted be an alarm installer. I've soldered in a fly lead with a 2-pin Deutsch connector and sorted out the wiring so if I need to replace the remote central locking module (given the one I'm using is a £12 Chinese eBay jobby) it'll be a simple swap over job.

Not on a 2.7 - they're immune. Mine also has the strengthened IMS, so that's not an issue.

Re: Your fleet running reports
Doesn't get past the 'no soft tops' rule though, I'm afraid.
It did make me look at Caymans though, although I wonder if they'd be a PITA to insure. Mind you the M135i is notoriously bad to insure so it'd probably be fine, arf.
Z4C seems like a safer option in terms of parts, specialists not costing £125/hr etc

Indeed. Basalt Black, 70K, heated seats, Bose, rear parking sensors, 19" lobster claw alloys, FSH, coolant crossover pipes done, new rads and aircon condensers, new coil packs, new Continental Conti Sport Contact 7's all round, Android Auto/Apple Car play stereo (original unit will be supplied for the purist), original windscreen, first to see will buy.

Re: Your fleet running reports
I’ve got a big heavy bastard one, low enough to fit under the compact without needing blocks of wood, but will easily lift the x5 off the ground.
It’s a right pain to move around and store, but a thousand times nicer than messing around with small standard trolley jacks. Probably the best £120 I’ve spent on a car related thing.
Cheers, Harry
