Looks much better Jobbo! 8-)

At the risk of upsetting RichB - what are the new tyre sizes (and wheel offsets)?

i refixed the headlight on the elise today, a bit of a messy job, but ultimately fairly easy. It’s drying wedged in position now - the sealant will need a day or two.

However. i noticed a bit of a knock from the front left on the way home last week. i had the wheel off anyway to access the light and had a look around. I took the caliper and disc off too for a good look and It appears that the wheel bearing assembly is moving (a lot) in the hub carrier.

when i get back under to finish the light, i’ll try tightening up the bolts either end of the clamp bolt (i didn’t have any sockets big enough out with me), but im assuming it’s lunched itself and i’ll need a new bearing?

Its been quite fun to poke around under the car though, they really are simple construction!

17x8 alloys, 225/45 tyres (standard is 17x7 with 205/45). Offset I can’t remember but possibly ET38 on the new ones.

Got the carpet cleaner machine out today as a bottle of milk leaked in the boot of the Zoe. Luckily the bag it was in caught most, but still a faff.

Silver lining I rearranged the contents of the (quite small) boot to free up some useful space.

I actually replaced 4 undertray screws which were missing and had none left over. That’s also the handiwork of my fine independent because that particular cover/heat shield is covering the gearbox sump.

Nice. Remember to check your speedo again with GPS. (I know tyres are both like and unlike tank tracks, but) in theory you've increased your gearing by 2.9% so if 70mph on the speedo before a true 68mph before, it's probably now a true 70mph.

Ooh the Defender is perfectly accurate after the bigger tyres and this gives a very warm fuzzy feeling. I expect Jobbo will sink slightly lower in his seat when he sees this.

There were no tears. We know better, there were some choice words used though.

Now I’ve checked, the new ones are ET38 and the standard ones ET45. Plenty of knowledge out there about what fits because the mk4 MX5 has been around for nearly a decade.

I think the speedo should now be bang on at 70mph based on it being about 2-3mph high previously. Haven’t checked yet. I wanted 235/40x17 tyres which are almost exactly the same diameter as the standard ones but it turns out there are some sizes with virtually no choice; I went slightly narrower with the next profile up to get Goodyear F1s. So far the slightly higher gearing is probably about right; it was fairly low geared anyway even in 6th.

Someone put a brick through the M135i back passenger window, which a neighbour noticed before me and called the police (damn you, noise cancelling headphones), and while I was giving a statement to the coppers, a recovery lorry turned up "because the owner wanted it taken away for repair". You got the paper work for that?

No.

...oh mate....

Cops currently waiting for "the owner" to turn up to nick 'em.

Edit: They probably cruised past in a taxi and saw the cops and scarpered. Recovery drivers cleared off too....

Car won't start because they've pulled down the back seat, lifted the boot cover and ripped loads of cables. So can't even move it off the road, as it won't start, which means it won't come out of park. Not without jacking the car up and undoing a screw under the car, which isn't feasible for me to do.

So that's an insurance job at best. Assuming they don't come back again to lift the car.

Fucks sakes.

Oh Beany. That’s pretty shitty luck. You averted worse situation of it being taken away though. Hope your insurers sort it quickly. If there are cables ripped out it sounds like a BMW dealer job, so hopefully you’ll get a courtesy car without too much trouble.
