Looking to replace my 11 year old IPad Mini. I don’t need it to do anything more than Kindle, browsing and YouTube/Netflix. Normally I’d just get a new iPad but they’re £430.
I’ve never had an android device, so what’s wrong with this for £130? https://amzn.eu/d/h7fjt2w
ETA there’s an 8Gb of RAM version for £50 extra (as supposed to 4Gb)

Re: Tablets
They get good reviews and if you don’t need/want a big screen it’ll be ideal.240PP wrote: Sun Mar 23, 2025 3:28 pm Looking to replace my 11 year old IPad Mini. I don’t need it to do anything more than Kindle, browsing and YouTube/Netflix. Normally I’d just get a new iPad but they’re £430.

Re: Tablets
I had the same issue in 2021 - my early iPad mini was pretty much useless and I wanted a new tablet. Bought a Galaxy Tab A8, but was really dissapointed with it's general speed and slow reactions. No idea how that compares to an A9 (or an A9 with extra memory) but I returned it and bought another iPad mini.

Re: Tablets
I've no experience of that particular tablet but along the lines of what mik said - I have never encountered an Android device that I didn't want to hurl out the window within minutes of using it. Every single one has been slow & glitchy & just generally awful.
Re: Tablets
Buy cheap buy twice. Google pixel tablet, Honor stuff is pretty decent as is Lenovo tab plus.
Re: Tablets
I'll say the same thing as I do to everyone.
If you're using iPad, buy another iPad. People switch to Android, buy a cheap one 'as they don't need all the functions' then moan when it's slow.....because they've bought a cheap one with low specs and claim Android to be shit. You just need to spend iPad money to generally get a decent experience, at which point you may as well have bought what you were used to before.
Just buy a refurbed iPad, or buy one 2nd hand. Added bonus that all your exisitng accounts all work on it.

Re: Tablets
yep, you’ll just get fucked off trying to make it work like your iphone and regretting it. i nearly threw the boys kindle fire out of a window trying to install a homework app on it. i bought an ipad shortly after.
Re: Tablets
I guess I’m odd, I always have Android phones, I had the first iPhone and hated it, (I’m sure they’re great now but they are so expensive) but I always use iPads, I’ve had Android tablets but in my experience iPads are just better. I’m currently trying to decide between a new A16 which I can get for £44 after trade in or an Air which is £340 after trade in.

FWIW I've bought a string of ~£100 used Lenovo tablets over the years for the kids. They're cheap enough that I'm not too fussed if they break, and for their use they're fine.

Re: Tablets
I had a look at the Apple refurb store and the M1 iPad Air is probably the one to go for but it's still £379 and came out in 2022.
I tend to buy a refurb previous year Pro and keep it for ages. Still using my iPad Pro 10.5" which was launched in 2017 occasionally

Bought both my wife and daughter new iPad 10th gens for Christmas. They’re just about still current I think and were £300 each or thereabouts and now seem to be 260 quid on Amazon.
Re: Tablets
This was a good shout so I ordered one. Then cancelled it when I saw I could get the latest one from JL with double the storage for £50 more.ShockDiamonds wrote: Mon Mar 24, 2025 5:38 pm Bought both my wife and daughter new iPad 10th gens for Christmas. I ideally wanted a smaller screen as it’ll be used as a Kindle most of the time with media for planes/trains but I’ll suffer it.
I very nearly ordered the Samsung with the 8Gb upgrade but it seems that the screens being unresponsive at times is the big complaint with them. So fuck that.

Did you go for the standard ipad in the end?240PP wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 10:24 amThis was a good shout so I ordered one.
