Found my cylinder 6 problem





I checked my invoice, the rocker gaskets are only 25,000 miles old and not leaking externally but there’s oil in the spark plug wells.
Looking online it seems the rocker gasket is sold in 2 parts with the exterior and the spark plug well gaskets a separate part although the Febi part has both in the kit.
My tuna couldn’t have been such a cunt as to not replace the inner gasket? How can all 8 be leaking?!

I would check to see if the covers are flat because a surprising amount of people can’t use a torque wrench. I think my Merc ones were 9Nm which is not very tight at all.

Yeah a job for next time if it does happen again. I had to rush through as I really needed the car working. Ideal world I'd have taken them off, checked with a straight edge and then ordered what I needed.

To be fair - if you run bolts up finger-tight and then check and find out they are supposed to be 9Nm - you’ve probably already overdone it.

Ahh but that’s hand tight, finger tight is with fingers, hand tight is with tools, but a hand tight with a 3/8t” ratchet is different than a hand tight with a 1/2” ratchet.

Then we have the click click noise you make, like you are making the noise to tempt over a small farm animal. This gives you the confidence that your calibrated hand is tightening to the correct amount.

For tighter fixings you can go Hnirghhhhhhh and breathe out and for large M36 and the like you shout “that’ll do the cunt” with a safety tug to be sure.

If you do go to the bother of using a hactual torque wrench then be sure to never wind it off and do a double click click for extra torqueing, Aslong as you remember to load new clicks at least weekly so you don’t run out.

Using a torque wrench to undo stuff aslong as it’s a very expensive one and no-one is looking.

I inherited a really old torque wrench (about 10cm longer (edit : more like 15cm? (edit2: alright alright, I just measured it - 60cm end to end, so approx 12cm longer. Happy now? )) than a normal one, that you set with an Allen key and an external gauge). It is used for loosening duties only. I don't expect it would move a centrelock nut, but it's saved me many times over the years.....

Suspension on the Mustang is knackered. Not failing MOT's, but the car feels floaty and actually quite disconcerting over 70mph (on my private runway)

Mustang groups recommended Pedders coilovers. £700 all round which seems like a bargain. I'll do the ARB's, etc, as well.

But someone commented saying coilovers don't make sense if you're not adjusting them.

However, for £700, a full set of OEM style shocks and springs won't be too far off in price, and at least with coilovers, I can get the car sitting how I want.

Am I missing something? Coilovers seem like a no brainer to me..

Many many (many, many) years ago we were offered a non-running (IIRC) 3.0 75 for very very cheap by (IIRC) the parents of one of Gavster’s Uni mates. It was tempting on the basis of their “it might be a simple fix” but it was (IIRC) somewhere out in Wales and the risk of it actually being utterly fcuked made the plan a non starter. Like the car. And in hindsight we had no way of collecting a dead car anyway.

And that’s the closest I’ve got to owning an Alfa. Sorry

I would like to think I’ve partly made up for it with other reckless decisions in the meantime.
