If you like a bit of twisty-turny dark comedy, check out Am I Being Unreasonable on the iplayer.

Re: Decent Recent TV
Unforgotten - pretty decent season. Kept me guessing to the end. Nichola Walker was a hard act to follow but Sinead Keegan is making the role her own.
This is the Zodiac speaking - on Netflix. 3 parter focusing on the adoptive family of the key suspect Arthur Leigh Allen - the Seawaters. Really chilling account but it leaves you with no doubt that he's guilty...
Yellowjackets - First few episodes of season 3 have a distinct "Lost" feeling. It's really begun to meander and is feeling a little directionless at the moment. will stick with it but I can see this one ending up being a bit shit...
Reacher - Series 3. It's daft nonsense but it knows it's daft nonsense and so it's sort of works.

Small Town, Big Story
If you liked Bodkin, then this is for you. Bigger production but same madcap Oirish humour. Paddy Considine (“The Worlds End” Paddy Considine, not “Dead Man’s Shoes” Paddy Considine), Christina Hendricks, Chris O’Dowd
It’s very very funny…

Corridor crew did a nice interview with Nick Park & Merlin Crossingham of Aardman about their animation.mik wrote: Wed Dec 25, 2024 7:36 pm Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl
Not quite as many belly laughs or visual gags as some of the earlier films, but still enough.
More mind-blowing animation - the narrow boats moving at speed for example![]()

20min05 they note that the boats and the water movement are CG - mixed in with the "conventional" stop motion. That's a bit of a relief as I watched them over several times - in slow-mo - and still couldn't get my head around how the hell they could have done it.

We were watching some of Black Mirror again over the weekend and some of the episodes in the first few series really feel close to the bone in terms of where we are with tech, AI, deep fakes and social media.
Cheers,

Started watching Adolescence yesterday - not my kinda thing, but everyone is banging on about it.
The 'single shot' element brings nothing IMO, and ultimately means you end up with filler where they need to join things together, especially evident in Ep2 which brings nothing to to overall story. It's a bit of a gimmick and would have been better without. At the moment, it's good, but not the 10/10 everyone claims.

Looking forward to the new series, although they should have left the USS Callister one alone, IMO. Didn't need a sequel....hopefully I'll be surpised.Ascender wrote: Mon Mar 17, 2025 4:42 pm We were watching some of Black Mirror again over the weekend and some of the episodes in the first few series really feel close to the bone in terms of where we are with tech, AI, deep fakes and social media.

Last Breath
Underwater story of a diver trapped on the bottom of the North Sea.
At the time of the accident, Chris Lemons was relatively new to saturation diving. It was an exciting time in his life: he was engaged to be married and building a dream house in the highlands with his fiancée.
After a system failure on the dive support vessel, Chris becomes stranded on the seabed with five minutes of oxygen, but no chance of rescue for more than thirty minutes.
The original participants deliver emotional first-hand accounts of an incident that has reshaped their lives forever.

Re: Decent Recent TV
Binged Adolescence tonight and enjoyed it. It's hitting an important subject from a great angle, focussing on incels, teenage violence and knife crime from the perpetrator's family's perspective. The one-shot makes for a slower-paced show, which I found strangely calming and relatable, feeling more engaged with the characters because there were no cuts, so it was like watching the whole story without blinking. The whole thing is pretty heartbreaking and Stephen Graham deserves national treasure status, his performance was brilliant, as is Owen Cooper as Jamie and literally every single other member of the cast, they're all faultless.
Having said all of that, I still wouldn't give it the 10/10 that people are raving about. It's good, it's really worth watching, and it's a solid 8/10 if only for the acting.

We’ve only done the first 2 episodes, but it’s certainly gripping! I thought the 1-shot take per episode added real drama - and I am fascinated by the choreography necessary to make it happen. Some excellent acting too. I’m not far enough in to give it a rating yet, but very much enjoying it.Gavster wrote: Tue Mar 18, 2025 8:41 pmBinged Adolescence tonight and enjoyed it. Note: I hadn’t heard about it in advance, and was literally 8-10mins into E1 before it hit me that it had been a single shot to that point…..

i watched the first episode, i was wowed by the single shot when moving between locations, but thought it got slow and boring in the police station. i’ll probably watch more.

Re: Decent Recent TV
The acting is even more impressive when you realise that a some of the lines got fluffed during the takes which made it to broadcast, however in every case the cast improvised their way around them.
Re: Decent Recent TV
I need to give it a watch later, reviews for it seem very marmite.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Decent Recent TV
The cameraman is doing a great job. I keep expecting him to trip when he’s clearly having to walk backwards upstairs etcmik wrote: Sat Mar 22, 2025 9:37 am

Re: Decent Recent TV
We’ve just finished watching Adolescence - two episodes last night and two tonight. The first two were more gripping. Cameraman didn’t fall off the front of the van in episode 4, impressive. But overall it’s well shot, well acted and felt a bit lacking in story.
Re: Decent Recent TV
We’ve finished it tonight and came to a similiar opinion. The acting carried it, not much substance to the story.
Re: Decent Recent TV
I thought it was ok, but it's not really my thing. I wish I'd looked at the number of episodes so I knew it was the last one, I was kinda waiting for a bigger finale so it fell a bit flat. Thought it was well done though.

I found it incredibly upsetting, heartbreaking, and very hard to watch
