If/when a ceasefire happens in Ukraine, Russia will be frantically rebuilding its military ready for another go. We'll need to match or even exceed whatever they do. We'll be back to a traditional arms race.
I'm of the opinion that should Putin's Russia ever be silly enough to attack a NATO country it would be very one sided.

Russia's air force has been forced into mostly standoff bombing by Ukraine and will struggle to rebuild for decades. Unless they start buying planes from China.

Poland are also going to be locally producing the Korean main battle tank in the hundreds if not thousands and I can see a lot of demand for alternative suppliers to the unreliable ally that the USA has become.

The insane invasion of Ukraine has almost entirely burned through the caches of Soviet materiel and their local production capacity will hopefully be hampered by sanctions for the foreseeable (the unforeseeable is that Trump could be selling them F22s before 2027)

Remind me to hit Trump up next time I want to do an outdoor cinema event, because fuck me that's some crisp projection.

I'd say they are significantly non-zero.

I'd put a fiver on Ukrainian secret service doing it at this rate given that Trump just basically made himself an enemy of their state, second only to Putin.

Israel also have a vested interest in getting one of their Iranian accomplices to do the deed as that would solve their Iran problem with the US administration nuking the place

Yeah but them Israel would have no bigger kid to back them up when they go step on the necks of their neighbours, so that's not gonna happen.

Trump might actually do a hitler and kill himself, but not in the way you think:

Thankfully there are still voices of logic within the US. But can they stop the idiot from idioting?

I don’t think there’s anything that Larry David has said that I don’t agree with.

Nice to hear some sensible voices from over there.

Yes, but then they get overpowered in the press cycle when Musk says that Zelenskyy had a US journalist killed.

(which he didn't Gonzola Lira was a twobit Lord Haw Haw, who's past includes being a manosphere influencer who was pro fucking underage teens because 'they're more fertile') who was placed under house arrest in Ukraine for publishing the locations of Ukrainian materiel and uncritically pushing russian propaganda.

He then tried to flee the country - livestreaming his attempts and was arrested.

In prison, he got pneumonia, and died. There's no evidence the Ukrainian security services were involved - he was a 55 year old lifelong smoker who got pneumonia and reportedly refused treatment, how did people think that would end?

Meanwhile, Musk is doing business with Saudi Arabia, where there's strong evidence they directly tortured and murdered an actual journalist.

But that journalist was brown, so it doesn't count.

Musk is following the standard playbook of 'make as much noise as possible to drown out legitmate critique in the press' because "MUSK SAYS UKRAINE KILED A US JOURNALIST" gets more clicks than "Politician states that Musk is being a fascist cunt"

Cripey. Taking a leaf from Israel’s exploding pagers, a claim that Ukraine rigged explosives in FPV goggles used by the Russians.

The difference being these are being used on an actual battlefield, rather than, say, in a local government building by what are ostensibly civil servants, around kids.

No, actually you're right, I'm conflating Hezbollah and Hamas in my head which is where that comment came from.

But they still killed kids, because the pagers were detonated in shops, homes, hospitals, on the street, on public transport and in cars. They also had no idea who else was using the pagers, as several healthcare workers were using them and were killed, presumably after they had been loaned or mis-delivered.

The indiscriminate nature of Israels attack using everyday devices that in normal context wouldn't be considered wartime materials is what makes it a war crime.

Targeted delivery of devices being used exclusively for combat by soldiers in an active warzone is not the same thing, is my point - which is how some people are presenting it.

The US has refused to co-sponsor a UN resolution marking the third anniversary of Russia's invasion, and opposed calling Russia the aggressor in a G7 statement marking the anniversary of the invasion.

I'm genuinely starting to wonder how long it will be before US troops deploy to keep Ukrainians out of Ukraine.
