Looks like it should say Hyundai on the back. Not necessarily a bad thing given current bmw styling

It makes me think Alfa Romeo more than anything, especially the back. It's got to be a better direction than the XXXXL grill direction they've been heading though. Especially when EVs don't even need big grills.
Re: BMW Vision Neue Klasse
That was what I thought too - something about the rear reminded me of both GTA and 75.Rich B wrote: Tue Sep 05, 2023 7:13 am It makes me think Alfa Romeo more than anything, especially the back.
And yes - much better than the current direction. As noted previously - BMW had one of these on display at Knockhill for the BTCC - it was every bit as ugly in the metal.

Side profile I’m getting a strong Maserati Biturbo vibe.

Re: BMW Vision Neue Klasse
So, even though it looks a lighter design (and a much better one as already mentioned), it’s reported the battery pack will be 20% more energy dense with a 30% improvement in range and charge rate.
https://www.carspecslab.com/bmw/i4/battery-weight/
The i4 battery pack weighs 550kg, so if we assume the same battery kWh, then it’ll be about 100kg lighter than the current i4 which weighs 2125kg, so it’s still going to be a 2T vehicle..
It seems that cars are never going to be be 1500kg any more; god knows what that’ll do for the 911 (and other sports cars) when their elec replacements show up!

Re: BMW Vision Neue Klasse
Isn’t the 911 Turbo already a +1700kg car? Which is the same as the big battery Model 3 long range RWD version which is a large steel car capable of carrying 5 people and has no fancy composites in its construction.
It isn’t beyond reason to think that we can have a relatively light EV but it’s cheaper to make a bloated car and everyone is chasing profit margins these days.

How about not having a sig at all?

Lots of posts on social media about the new M3 - apparently two powertrain options: a 3.0L 6cyl or electric. The electric one has over a tonne of downforce generated by fans underneath (like the McMurty), 1300hp and 18000NM (yes eighteen thousand!!)

I like that and much prefer it to their current styling direction, in line with most others on here.
Also agree that the rear screen / bootlid interface is very Maserati - a bit more Ghibli / Shamal in my eyes though rather than Biturbo (though obviously they were essentially derivatives of that car).

Re: BMW Vision Neue Klasse
The flared front wheel arch and black bit immediately made me think of this.

Re: BMW Vision Neue Klasse
Huh? That would make it more than 12x as much torque as a 1000bhp Tesla S Plaid (which produces 1420Nm). Sounds unlikely.IanF wrote: Wed Feb 19, 2025 1:00 pm The electric one has over a tonne of downforce generated by fans underneath (like the McMurty), 1300hp and 18000NM (yes eighteen thousand!!)

I wonder if we'll start to see legislation around fans. I don't fancy following a McMurtry or GMA T50 in the rain with them firing tens of litres of water at my windscreen. At least you'd be unlikely to be following either for very long I guess.....

It's bollocks. That's a test vehicle that has those figures, and doesn't represent what will be offered in production models.mik wrote: Wed Feb 19, 2025 1:34 pmHuh? Re: BMW Vision Neue Klasse
It’s likely torque at the wheels after it’s been multiplied by the gear reduction of the motor which is another bullshit metric that some EVs like to use.

Re: BMW Vision Neue Klasse
It doesn't even make sense - if you can make 18,000 Nm, then what is happening to it at higher motor speeds such that peak power is "only" 1300bhp.Swervin_Mervin wrote: Wed Feb 19, 2025 2:38 pm

Re: BMW Vision Neue Klasse
2mins in one of the engineers says what is translated as 18000NM.. someone who speaks German care to confirm?
