This prevailing attitude that it’s minorities fault that they’re being attacked because they were too pushy in not wanting to be discriminated against is fucking disgusting though.
I'm not sure anyone said that on here though did they? Even if you don't agree with a policy that is implemented you can only blame the infrastructure that implemented it, not the will of the group campaigning for it. It is the job of our governance infrastructure to decide in an even handed way whether a policy is appropriate and democratic once a group has proposed it.

To be honest I got a bit lost in the trans debate as it's not something I'm particularly interested in, it was just an example of me trying to understand how we've got to this position in international politics where what I thought used to be extreme right wing fringe views have become so popular that people are winning elections on them. That's really what I'm trying to make sense of in my head.

I like to think the electorate are not that mental, but something, be it social media or just media is causing them to ignore very serious issues with who they elect, and it's that ability not to critically assess the pros, cons and on some level forecast future outcomes that concerns me.

Trans people just want to live their lives and have no interest in being a political beating stick.

It’s the anti trans pressure groups that are keeping this bubbling over.
You don’t think the extreme left have had a part to play in this? Demanding trans rights regarding bathrooms, for example, at the expense of women’s rights?

As Duncs has already said, baby steps were needed for change but they went all in aggressive and it’s fucked it up for everyone. So now people have got pissed off, voted without a level head and you now get people like Trump in charge.
I’m not sure how else to read comments like this tbh Duncs

As far as how right wing populists got in, same as they ever do. They may be monsters but they promised to fix the economy.

The whole thing, the first part is categorically wrong and the second part blames a minority for their own discrimination.

I haven’t blamed a minority. I do think a section of society, a more vocal and extreme one, went about affecting change in a far too dramatic way which, going by what you’re saying, has had an adverse effect.

You’re still wrong though, the vocal and extreme minority who’re trying to effect change are the terfs trying to force rollbacks in rights for trans people.

The right for trans people to use services and facilities that match their reassigned gender is protected under several human rights laws, including the equality act.

Like, I don’t really want to keep going over this as you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about.

There’s no room in your head for the idea that small sections on both sides could be DIW, is there

Just remembered I went for lunch on Saturday and took a pic. Los Gatos in Swindon.

No, there are “trans allies” who are getting it wrong but to say they’re comparable to an organised effort to undermine trans rights is stupid.

how do people force trans rights that already exist?

If trans rights exist, a good thing imo, then the battle’s been won, no?

Again, the fight just now is people who have Wes Streeting’s ear trying to roll those rights back. Do you even read the replies?

Oh no. I'm shocked. Shocked!

Yes, this is my surprised face, can't you tell?

edit:
Hegseth said any durable peace must include "robust security guarantees to ensure that the war will not begin again".

However, he said "the United States does not believe that Nato membership for Ukraine is a realistic outcome of a negotiated settlement".
I mean, they had robust security guarantees, and Russia still started a war. NATO membership is one of the few things Putin wouldn't openly risk getting Article 5'd over.

Straight from russian propaganda mouthpiece, eh?

Ukraine war was poorly managed by Nato allies. The drip feeding of critical gear which only seemed to happen whenever Ukraine were badly on the back foot seemingly to just buy time but to never to make too much of an impact for fear of Putin's empty nuclear threats. After Ukraine failed that major offensive it was a given that they'd not be able to regain lost ground. The Kursk offensive seemed to be applauded but also led to them losing huge swathes of land to the West on a daily basis. Up to 20% now.
Continuing to support it at the current rate will just result in Ukraine eventually losing all their territory.
I still think that Russia taking Ukraine was a given, although by supporting Ukraine we at least let them set Russia back by 10 years before they start the next conflict.
How about not having a sig at all?

This is a good article, published in early December before a lot of the current situation materialised. Especially the final point about the legal status of the occupied areas.

The speed with which they’ve dismantled their domestic and international stability would be impressive if it wasn’t so horrifying tbh.

Unintended consequence of screwing up support for Ukraine, any free nation unsure of their allies willingness to step to their defence will be fast tracking a nuclear weapons program, yay.

Depending on how Trump plays with China Taiwan may go for strategic ambiguity very quickly.

Not wanting to restart an argument so feel free to ignore but felt it was important to highlight this as it’s exactly what I was talking about.

Removing any reference to trans people in the history of the Stonewall is just ahistorical, regardless of how you feel about trans people.
