But having seen your driving antics, not sure how mellow you ever drive? ;)

The one thing I would say is that a GT86 is really easy to fuck up, and very difficult to make better than OEM. Only Toyota's, Endless or AP's brake upgrades work in my opinion. The only suspension upgrades that have worked are the factory TRD, Sachs upgrades or Ohlins and KW - all the other brands have made the car worse. The engine is shit, but after a while you don't care because you just spend your focus on driving it rather than noticing what noise it makes.

I still have mine because I can't currently afford a 911. An Exige/Elise is the only thing between a GT86 and a 911 that delivers on the driving tool level as far as I'm concerned. The MX5 isn't hard edged enough to my taste. The M2 keeps getting looked at and I've driven one but for all the obvious advantages, the ruinous running costs work against it, as does the fact I can only get a manual BMW here by importing it myself. I would acknowledge though, running costs here vs being in Europe could be quite different.
I'm so spoilt with my lotus, the lotus I race and the other ones i've built that I get to drive, that I don't want a balls out road car any more because nothing gets close. I'm a mellow driver, I just like going sideways, but I don't mind doing it slowly....so the 86 really appeals to me in that respect, but I keep thinking i'd probably rather have a 2 seater soft top if I was going for something like the 86, as they look basically as impractical as a 2 seater.

Problem is, everything will feel heavy and ponderous compared to your Lotus.

A sorted 996 would be my suggestion. A 911 of any flavour is different to anything else so would at the very least would give you a different challenge.

Mine feels like a go kart compared to my 360 so would probably feel super luxurious in this context 😀

Kind of, but not always the case. I owned my S2k at the same time as my mrs had the boxster and the honda felt super light and nimble by comparison.I loved it, I just didn't want to watch it rot away in front of my eyes and I don't want another project car.

I do love a clown shoe. Another car i've not driven but really appeals. I thought they were way more money than that still though.

With your spannering skillz, Maser Gran Turismo? Tidy one up a bit and it would probably tick a lot of boxes.

Same idea but V8 Vantage?

I saw one advertised the other day for about 15 grand and thought it might be a lot of car for the money, but also probably ruinous

They are surprisingly heavy. Non starter here I think.

They are such a great looking car, can't offer any help on how it goes though :?

Must be worth a look, think it will do everything you're after!

Worst driving position of any car I’ve ever tried.

This is definitely getting warmer. I think something like this would fit my criteria nicely and I can’t think of much else.
