So when your camera is dirty is it totally blind when reversing?
I can’t read the numberplate on the Model 3 right now and it’s complaining about dirty cameras but the sensors still work fine.

It gets fogged with dirt meaning reduced image quality but usually can see well enough and the car's park assistance works to see shapes and I haven't had much of an issue before. It was completely covered in grime after a trip around London and back up to Cambridge and neither I nor the park assistance could see. This model has no sensors (which I have never had an issue with before this).

I hold my hands up to driver error / being tired / not paying enough attention to the other cameras in addition though. And it would have been quick to have got out and given it a quick wipe before reversing into my driveway, hindsight is great.

Audi update: the rear numberplate went from readable to totally obscured by dirt within about 30 miles yesterday so I cleaned it a bit. The Conti Sportcontact 6 tyres seem to work very well in the colder, greasy conditions though.

Wanted to get the oil changed in the focus- not strictly due because of 2 year service intervals, but that’s just bullshit given how much these engines dilute it with fuel. Also needed to change the front pads as they were buggered and flagged as an advisory on the mot last year.

Both jobs I can do easily, but not found time to do it and decided to just pay to have it done, rather than leave it any longer, went to who looks after the work vans for us, only charged £150 and saved me a few hours work plus having to source bits

Both cars insurance renewed for 5000 miles p.a. £197 for the Yaris and £264 for the S Class with a multicar policy with Hastings Direct. A saving of about £50 on each policy over what 1st Central were quoting

A lot less. £680 down to £474.

i’m not sure i can be bothered to hunt round - the previous years number came from extensive searches, so to go down £200 is great.

996 GT2 over all other 911 models.

I think I mentioned previously that one time I was p-riding with @Nefarious at Knockhill, a 996 GT2 joined the track. It was being driven well and pushed hard, but it was proper "elastic band" stuff : GT2 pulling tens of metres ahead on the main and back straights, with Nef in the Westie clawing back huge chunks in every braking zone, and through the bends.

I believe Mr. McRae had something to say about straights being for fast cars...

Yep. My renewal in Sept dropped from £190-odd to about £140. Didn't bother doing any searches!

Same. Think it’s related with the FCA investigation over their rip off pricing which was only ever that. Remember getting a letter saying labour prices went up 10% a year, parts 20% but somehow my insurance went up 100%. Bunch of cunts.

With the amount of grime on our roads over the winter I'm going to be really interested to see how all these new systems which rely on clean sensors and cameras work for about 6 months of the year.

Waiting for Porsche to order a replacement window, so far my bright yellow tape is doing the job.

Mrs Mike was working yesterday so I went for a little drive round a few villages, a decent loop, 90% all twisty minor A roads and it was fantastic fun. Apart from one busy stretch which lasted a few miles I think I saw about 12 cars at the most. I do wonder when the nc500 traffic is going to start though.

Dakar continues to impress with its handling in the bends, even on a day where temps went from freezing to about 4/5 max. Seems to be oodles of grip, even on those all-terrain tyres and the smaller wheels make such a difference on roads with poor surfaces and pot holes.

I am going to look into removing the roll-cage to get more useable space in the back. Obviously I'll need to keep it for if/when I sell the car, but there's a shed-load of storage space there which is currently limited to "things which will fit through the holes in the roll cage".
