Apart from anything else, how lax/vague must the safety laws be to permit a design like that to be acceptable? Yes, I know they get a free AR15 with every fifth cup of coffee/Big Gulp, but given they mandate an internal boot release mechanism, you'd think it would extend to the more normal methods of egress.

Well that's my camping trip gone wrong theory out of the window, I suppose.Kenny Cooper, assistant special agent in charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms’ San Francisco Division, said it remains unclear how the explosives were detonated. He noted that everything used was consumer-grade, such as the camping fuel and propane tanks, in addition to “some explosive targets that can be purchased at any sporting goods store.” Both of the firearms in the Cybertruck had been legally purchased two days earlier, on December 30. Cooper also noted, echoing Dean Livelsberger, that “the level of sophistication is not what we would expect from from an individual with this type of military experience.”

He was apparently a bit Trump/MAGA type, perhaps he was not so chuffed about voting for "america first, fuck immigrants, deport 'em all" and then seeing Musk say "er, no, I need lots of H1B migrants, and people who don't get that are retards who can fuck their own face" (or words to that effect, overall) and Trump saying "yeah he's right you know"...
...because a lot of MAGA, including lots of the mentally unstable and violent ones, are now not just turning on Trump and Musk, but making very loud noises about how they're full on traitors, because their thought leaders like Bannon etc are saying that's what they need to do...
The inauguration might be interesting at this rate.

Re: Trump
Shot himself before the explosion or because he was burning alive?
Or maybe it was just really fucked up, he shot himself and that accidentally triggered the explosion?
Wonder if they'll find what triggered the explosion?

Back in the early to mid 90's, there was serious-ish discussions about Ireland lobbying to become a US state. Serious enough to be prolonged and to feature in National Newspapers and on TV Debates. Used to crop up at election time too.
Ireland was in the toilet, economically and socially with unemployment and unavoidable emigration (always a sore spot for the Irish) was rampant and Heroin was a huge problem in the inner cities. Far cry from what the Celtic Tiger created.
The EU wasn't at a size to really help significantly so it seem like it was at least worth the debate. Thankfully, it never went anywhere.
The Scotland thing isn't to far a stretch to be fair. Fan the crest of a new Nationalistic Wave (Fanned by his mate Elon) and offer to support it in return for a Unincorporated Territory status, like Puerto Rico, and near complete autonomy under the umbrella of the States. The North Sea Gas and Oil would certainly remain under Scottish control in that scenario

Re: Trump
I don't think Trump would need to 'buy' Scotland. The scale by which a bit of social media propaganda can sway public opinion I'd say simply do a deal with Scotland for post referendum and in return apply some US resources to the referendum and general public opinion. That will get over the line. US scoops up Scotland for free.

Re: Trump
Not sure this would fly with the MAGA "Tariff the Sh*t out of everyone" election promise. He'd want more in order to give away anything useful to an Independent Scotland
Re: Trump
The details of his deal could be anything he liked, unfettered access to Scotland's resources, turn it into a US military base, etc. I think Scotland would sign up to pretty much anything as long as Trump saved them from the English oppressors!
