The floods and snow had pretty much all gone at home this morning. However, en route to a meeting in Stoke on Trent I encountered a blizzard on the M6. Quite brief, but glad I had my boots with me for the site visit because the snow settled.

Loads more snow here overnight and the promised warmer weather and sun seems to keep moving out by 24 hours each day.

It went from -12 to +12 within about 24 hours up here. Still some snow up high but it's not going to last. Some of the local roads have taken a lot of damage with the amount of water on them and the temperature fluctuations though.

Most of the snow has gone from around here, so I think I should be able to move the car properly for the first time since last Sunday, today.

(Being between two sideroads, they were cleared and the snow piled up ahead and behind my car and there was nowhere else to put it - I work from home so I let it slide as I can realistically order stuff in etc and don't need to leave the house)

Did some experiments on Sunday. The difference in grip between the Zoe on all-season tyres compared to the Galaxy on winters is significant.

Drove both cars the same route, and where the Galaxy just gripped, the ABS in the Zoe kicked in/wheels were spinning (depending on what I was doing).

I'd expected a difference, but not that big. The Zoe's tyres are at 4mm, the Galaxy closer to 6, but then the tyres are 4-5 years older.

It was 5c on my way home last night, but there’s so mush damp slimey grit and salt on the roads that traction from a standing start seemed almost non existent! I was a bit too keen exiting a roundabout and the car just ploughed straight on

Needs a good downpour to wash the crap away now the temperature has gone up a bit, my rear numberplate was unreadable after a single commute.

We’re only in an amber warning area, but power went out at 6 this morning and isn’t forecast to be back on until 10pm. And of course we’ve not yet got round to buying an ups and some decent power banks etc. In-laws have power if we need it, but I guess I need to do a wee bit more planning for the next time this happens.

Three figure gusts? Wow. Most of the central belt seems to have been shut down going by messages from friends.

Just popped to the village for a coffee. Bracing is how I’d describe the wind.

Had to drive round one fallen tree on the way to work but it was only blocking one side of the road. I think these winds are a natural cull of trampolines.

It’s pretty quiet at the moment in Glasgow, but it was nuts around 06:00 and is due to get bad again around 14:00.
