ECOTY 2024 (spoilers inside)

Post by Jobbo »

My new issue hasn’t arrived but someone has posted a photo of the result on a Facebook group so others here may have seen it. Spoilers below.

Not a massive surprise that a 911 won it. But the second place pleased me. Looking forward to the full thing arriving so I can read it all.

My ECOTY issue did arrive in the post yesterday and the car of the year article was a happy distraction from Strictly. After reading the whole thing I was really unsure what would come 3rd, 4th and 5th - it’s a very close year.

Catchpole’s personal comments after the end of it I particularly enjoyed. Yes, my S6 Avant is nearly £100k less than the RS6 GT but it still shares a fair bit of DNA and is an unsung joy to drive, so I’m pretty happy that I couldn’t really buy a pair of better cars right now. Short of a 911 which I obviously want as well.

You could post the list as a spoiler if you wanted to?

8-) for second place (one score for it lower than all the others - fix!)
Left over crest; tightens.

To be fair, it looks like the GR86 should have won if it was in this year - it beat the facelifted MX5 in a twin test earlier in the year!

I was a bit disappointed to see the 911 win as they seemed a bit lukewarm in the write up leading up to it. I still have to read the testers' comments. A really great showing from the MX5.

Also I think the numerical voting system is pretty meaningless as the numbers are arbitrary with each tester operating to their own scale, and the differences separating the top ones miniscule.
