EBay Fees
Apparently ! Had an email from them today saying it’s now free to sell (private sellers).
Indicative of eBay now being a commercial shopfront and private sellers are only a minor aspect ?

Re: EBay Fees
Here’s the email to business sellers, claiming that this is to help bring more private sellers and therefore buyers onto the platform

I wonder if Facebook have ben getting a lot of the private market from eBay. Recently I’ve been selling stuff via Facebook marketplace instead of eBay, because it’s far, far quicker. Usually could list and sell an item, having it gone out the door within 24 hours and no need to wait for a ‘zero fees’ offer etc.

Hmm. I've not sold on Facebook, I've bought once or twice and often browse it but Facebook search functionality is DIRE. Really really really awful. And if you're looking at vehicles the number of scams is insane. At least half the ads IME, from looking at Vianos & Discoverys recently.
Re: EBay Fees
Most ads for anything on marketplace are scams or offloading stolen goods ime.

Re: EBay Fees
I've bought and sold plenty on there. Lots of people want a quick, hassle-free sale and it enables that easily. Maybe being close to central London changes the dynamic, because there's loads of stuff for sale that's not a scam. I recently sold my dining room chairs on there and the guy who bought them owns one of the most popular bars in east London - there's a lot of decent people on there.

Re: EBay Fees
Like when mum & dad donated the dining room chairs to charity and they ended up in that pub in Surbiton ! So weird to go there and sit on the same chair I'd spent years (literally) sitting on while doing school homework, such that it was perfectly moulded to the shape of my bottom and very comfyGavster wrote: Tue Oct 01, 2024 11:21 am I recently sold my dining room chairs on there and the guy who bought them owns one of the most popular bars in east London...

That’s a nice excuse….
Oh so that’s you drunk again ?
Don’t blame the drink, it’s nostalgia!

Re: EBay Fees
I think it definitely depends on what you're selling, I tried it for bike parts and most of the ads smelled off.Gavster wrote: Tue Oct 01, 2024 11:21 am I've bought and sold plenty on there. Re: EBay Fees
I sold a golf club a few weeks back on eBay (first time I'd sold anything on there), I was really surprised how much the fees totalled up to. Would have waited a couple of weeks if I'd known
oh well.

Re: EBay Fees
A lot of people use Vinted for anything small enough to be shipped by a standard courier. It used to be primarily a Depop rival but there's all kinds of shit on there now.

Re: EBay Fees
And the fees are back ! Along with some tortuous logic trying to claim it’s still free and the buyer pays and it’s included in the listing price. So that’s exactly the same as before.
And now sellers only get their money two days after delivery.

From the email:
How the Buyer Protection fee works
•
The fee will be included in the item price from private sellers, so there are no surprises at checkout.
•
Buyers will pay up to 4% of the item price, plus £0.75.** For example, when they see an item for £20, the fee of £1.49 will already be part of the price.
•
The fee is lower on higher-priced items over £300, and there's a cap on the total amount they'll pay.

Re: EBay Fees
The recent change where money goes into your eBay balance, and you specifically have to request it to withdraw it pissed me off too. Just send me the money.
I'm slowly becoming more of a facebook marketplace fan. It's full of two types of people: Scammers and people who simply want to sell stuff at a decent price with minimum hassle. If you find the latter, it's great.

Re: EBay Fees
I preferred no fees & manual payouts tbh.
