I unfortunately saw the video of it on Twitter, it's horrific. If it's to be believed, attacker was a Saudi so the right-wingers will be all over this...the AfD were already gaining lots of support.

My wife and I were talking about the possibility of this as we walked through the Birmingham Christmas market this week. The anti-terrorist barriers are annoyingly designed and apart from a bit of colour to jazz them up are pretty much the same as they have been for maybe 15+ years. And there are gaps in certain places and a flimsy looking barrier for vehicle access which wouldn’t stop anything.

She said that it wouldn’t be difficult to blow up a vehicle next to the barriers anyway and still cause havoc. I don’t know if Birmingham is very different in its security from any other big city in the U.K. though. Worcester Christmas market you’d only be prevented from driving a truck into by the bloody traffic jams, but it was only on for a weekend.

I may be imagining it, but when someone who carries out this sort of attack is clearly not an ISlamic fundamentalist, does mental illness not tend to be thrown in the ring?

I did not watch the footage, I suspect it would be too upsetting. People really can be dicks

100% mental illness is at play in some form. They have legitimised their actions as they believe it’s the right thing to do.

Look at how just political sides get so shouty, now join in echo chambers and woe is me we are all going to die from religions, financial aswel and I think it stresses people out and makes them mentally ill.

I hate how mental illness is always trotted out tbh.

It’s just a cop out for folk whos politics are uncomfortably close to the attacker’s.

There's some weird folk out there!

Unrelated but still creepy, someone has changed the day headings on BBC football scores to read "Today My Kill" instead of "Today Mon Tues".

That's likely a localisation issue, as you can tell by the fact it's got football marked as 'soccer' and a user signed in - where you can change the localisation.

In Germany, every Tuesday your three letter alarm clock day entry will tell you to DIE but it doesn't mean that someone has changed it. It just means someone doesn't understand how language works.

I'd wager someone's spotted that, and then it's been picked up by conspiracy loons.
